Call me ignorant, but it bothers me for a long time why Sonic Colours has not been ported after 6-7 years. It is said to be the one of the best 3D Sonic games, yet it is still exclusive for the Wii which is not supported anymore. The same goes to Sonic Unleashed, but mostly because of daytime stages. I know that Sonic Mania and Project 2017 are on the way to be published this year and it is better to not obstruct the situation. But I cannot remember that SEGA has ever told about the future of aforementioned Boost games. Is it because of some kind of exclusivity deals? Is SEGA afraid it will not be commercially successful?
Well, it's fairly simple to use the Dolphin emulator to unlock Sonic Colors' framerate, and play it at 60fps on PC. And then, the only part of Unleashed that most people care about has already been ported into Generations. So I imagine SEGA just doesn't see it as being worth the effort at this point.
Sega did say they were gonna port some Sonic games to pc but I think only one of them did get ported. Who knows if they are still working on other ports. PC games sell for much less than console games so they won't make that much if they port a game to PC. But they'll probably take what they can get.
I don't think it's likely to happen, but personally, I'd kill for a full Unleashed PC port. Unleashed Project is great, don't get me wrong, but the full game in 1080p60? Yes please. On that note, wasn't there talk a few months back about Sega having a "string of PC ports" coming out? What happened to that? I've tried looking, but I haven't really found any info on it.
I'm wondering if we'll get updated releases of Sonic Heroes and Riders on Steam, even if it's just the original PC versions put on there. Also Zero Gravity, but spinoffs would be extremely low priority I imagine.
I'd let my eyes starve by giving my eye teeth for a Colours port. I never got a Wii so my sole experience of it is from the DS, videos and ports to Generations.
I'd love a Colors port. I haven't played it since I got rid of my Wii U (never had a Wii) over a year ago. I think porting Colors and/or Unleashed to Steam would have been a better choice than SLW. Yeah, there was, but SEGA's been quite on that front for several months now.
The Panzer Dragoon series would be awesome, they already have the first game on the PC, but unfortunately they've lost the source code of Saga so I very much doubt it happening.
For now I would like Sonic Unleashed to have backward compatibility with my Xbox One... (you can help voting here). Sonic Generations is also listed
I believe when the "Sonic renaissance" occurs after successful launches of Mania and Project 2017, the rereleases of Unleashed and Colours would sell very well.
I've got a GTX 980 and an i7 4770k, and I haven't been able to get good performance out of that game. Any chance you've got some suggestions on settings? And how do you unlock the framerate on that game?
IIRC, the most important thing is to ramp up the emulated CPU clock. With Dolphin 5.0 at least, it's under the Advanced tab in the Configuration menu. The other things I remember - under the D3D menu, make sure "Store EFB Copies to Texture Only" is checked, and add this AR code for Colours itself (I've heard this works for both NTSC and PAL versions, but I haven't tested it on both myself so I'm not 100% sure): Code (Text): 008F2D97 00000001 0090DB0B 00000001
Well I don't ever see them porting Sonic Colors since that would require them porting over everything and basically putting it on the main hedgehog engine branch. Since it uses Nintendo's Library format for basically the graphical pipeline of it. And used Nvidia PhysX for it as well for object collision stuff. If it did get a port and used the graphical pipeline from Unleashed/Generations that would be amazing, but I just don't see it happening. Unleashed on the other hand I can see happen, since it should be a straight forward port since they had a PC version already (only thing I'd see them having trouble with is updating Havok, since that version is extremely old.) . But its a matter of do they care to even bother to do it. I really want it to happen for modding mostly. But many others don't seem to care for the title since the levels got ported to Generations. Much like the rest of us who want it, we want every level to be 60fps goodness. But I would say they have just this year really for it to really matter for any of those two games to happen since Sonic 2017 is coming this year. Spoiler I want Jet Set Radio Future as well.
Agreed. My sister's holiday disc bundle went to crap only a few months since we had the game, and her OG Xbox was painfully sluggish for most of its life, has a broken video cable, and for all I know could be anywhere. It would be nice if Sega buried the exclusivity hatchet on it and most of their other console-exclusive third-party games of the era. I'd love to play it and Sega GT 2002 on modern platforms. :/
On the topic of ports, if not a PC port, but surely the 3DS would have been capable of running a port of Sonic Adventure? I really feel like they missed a major cash grab opportunity there.
Sega should do Steam or console ports of the Saturn Sonic games, like Sonic 3D Blast Saturn Version, Sonic R, and have someway to reincorporate the Sonic Jam Sonic World side-game. I find it kind of dumb that Sega would port the Genesis edition of Sonic 3D Blast, rather than the Saturn edition (the superior version). I understand there's Sonic Gems collection and Sega PC ports, but the Wii is gone, and it's a hassle to find classic Sega PC discs and get them to run in Windows 10. The 3DS could run these games, but what's the point? Sega should definitely try to bring the Saturn games back to life on modern consoles.
