    Staying sane.
This was reported a few ago on some of the other Sonic/Sega sites and I thought it'd be best to leave for a couple of days.

So, as the headline says. Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 will be receiving official vinyl releases in double LP format for each game. The first pressings will receive a game inspired coloured vinyl with Adventure having blue and white vinyls and Adventure 2 having blue and red.

In addition, each soundtrack will have a booklet containing interviews with Jun Senoue and Takashi Iizuka as well as liner notes by John Linneman of Digital Foundry. Also included is song lyrics and character art.

This time, the soundtracks won't be handled by Data Discs but rather by Brave Wave. I'm also not expecting this to be cheap. Checking the European Store that Brave Wave work with would suggest that both soundtracks inc. shipping would cost just under €100 or about £88.50 for the U.K.

The page and track listing is here: http://www.bravewave.net/sonicadventure

  2. Eh, considering that for a sealed version of either of those two soundtracks it's $300+, so around $116 for both on vinyl isn't bad.

I really don't understand the appeal of vinyls. All that cracking and popping, and the constant hiss. I've listened to 'high quality 96KHz 24-bit Gold' rips of many LPs and all those noises make the experience inferior to a regular CD version of the same soundtrack.
Someone posted Sonic Adventure's vinyl rip sometime ago and honestly I'd prefer a 128 or 192Kbps mp3 than that version.

The big difference between analog and digital sound is that there are minuscule waveform changes and such in analog that would create a much larger file size to replicate in a digital version of the recording, and that's assuming a digitization can even capture those teeny tiny changes. One is not necessarily better than the other, but in my experience, a nice vinyl with good headphones or very good speakers has a nice quality to it that, again, is not better or worse than a CD, but is definitely different. I think to rip a vinyl is very interesting. Of course you're going to get noises and stuff. If I were getting a CD or a digital copy of music I would much rather it be from the original master or CD release, not from the vinyl. That sounds like a ploy to get people to buy something they don't own the master to anymore.

I'm interested in that image they have there. If it wasn't for the scanline effect, this would've been the highest quality SA1 box art background I've seen so far. There's also this one, but it's slightly faded and the logo covers a lot more than in the vinyl one.

    Not worth it. My reasons:

    • Vinyl wears with use. I have a record player to play these on, though. It's just that I like my CD player more.
    • 22 vinyl tracks instead of the combined total of 75 tracks you get if you bought the original CDs for Sonic Adventure.
    • 23 vinyl tracks instead of the combined total of 75 tracks you get if you bought the original CDs for Sonic Adventure 2 (It be 76 tracks if not for that double City Escape song on both the character theme and score albums, naturally the silent tracks of 9-91 were not counted for the character's theme album).
    • The noise floor for vinyl is awful.

  10. I see the OST is out on vinyl at last :)
And for me, at least, it seems I can actually place an order for a copy

What could be really awesome was if the artworks related to SA1's early development were present in said artbook that will accompany the discs.
