Okay, so I've found a rare SegaSonic Cosmo Fighter Galaxy Patrol ride for sale.

    Yep, this thing:

The only problem is, it's mega-expensive. $2,434 USD before shipping. But perhaps if everyone bands together and donates a small bit of money, someone who has the means to rip the game ROM can obtain it, rip the ROM, and distribute it for everyone to finally play! There are probably more than 2,434 fans out there who would want to play it, and if each of them donates $1, then it's easy, especially if you would team up with other sites like The Sonic Stadium. I just don't want to see this thing be lost forever. The Sonic community needs it! Thoughts?

I would be willing to throw $10 to $20 in the pool. I want to see this dumped.

I'm surprised at how low the price for the unit is. Of course, it begs the question of where it would go and how it would get there...

Perhaps the MAME team would be interested in getting ahold of it?

Just try not to spread this link any further if you don't want it to end up in the hands of some unknown crazy collector.

Make sure that if this is bought, the person responsible for collecting it can take some good photos too.

The cabinet is just as rare as the ROM. Perhaps less important but still.

Good point. The last thing we want is another Ratman debacle. As such, the link has been removed. If we're sure we want this thing, and can gather the funds to pay for it, I think we'd be safest if the machine's future caretaker is willing to buy it now and collect the money from the rest of the community later. If this goes as planned, the machine will belong to everyone who donated, and the person who actually has it in their possession is just the caretaker of it. This caretaker must:

    • Be trustworthy and responsible
    • Have the space for it
    • Have experience ripping games from C-2 based boards

And maybe he could even rent it out to conventions like Sonic Boom or Summer of Sonic!

This is good, very good. I'll throw in $15 (I'd do more if I could but circumstances prevent it).

If that were to happen, I think the best way to do it would be for the "caretaker" to decide how much they want to contribute in order to be the biggest donor and thus have the right to full on own it, and solicit $2,434 minus that amount. That way, they would legally, morally, and ethically own it free and clear (similar to how drx owns the NA S2 proto even though I was probably one of the bigger donors if not the second biggest, simply because he put more of his own money into it than I did :P, although I don't remember the actual donation breakdown but I clearly remember throwing $300 in for that one).

I'll admit that I don't particularly care who "owns" it, as long as that ROM gets dumped! C'mon, this needs to happen!

I've also found a Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car unit for sale, which is only a little over $1,000. It's in Dubai, though. And a refurbisher in Miami has both Waku Waku games in their inventory, but I don't know how much they cost. Could be convenient if anyone lives around there, then we wouldn't have to pay for shipping!

    So how much for both?

Hopefully the community can get these two.

Omgsh! We just have to get these two gems! We just have to! I know some members here who live in Miami and I'm also a Floridian. I really would like to see these two arcade games in action and nice pictures of the units themselves since they both feature old Sega Sonic rare artwork on both of them. The few pictures and camera recorded videos just aren't enough. The people who recorded themselves playing only did like one level, or played poorly due to holding a camera and trying to play at the same time. I just love how fluid the games animations are and would like to see all the mechs Eggman drives in the cosmo fighter one and see more levels of the cop one. I'm willing to try and help out, though I do want to mention I'm in a tight and bad financial state right now. I really don't want to see these two rare arcade games slip out of our hands. I'd like to play them too, they look fun.

I'd be in for contributing if we get a Paypal donation or something set up. Seems like a pretty ripe opportunity for the community.

If a donation drive sets off. I'd happily contribute some dollars.

    Some random RPG project.
I'll chip in for this if we get something set up, I'd love to have this game on my hyperspin cab.

It seems like there is some interest, which is awesome! I'll contact the seller of the units in Miami to see if they still have them and how much they'd cost. Then, we just need to find an owner for them and have him/her set up a Paypal account to collect donations! It'd be great to see the community get these things, it saves them from rotting in a Chinese arcade somewhere.

  20. I'd pitch in ten bucks or so for this likely awful piece of history to be dumped.
