Names: Lost Temple Lost Ruins El Dorado Aedes Siciliet Subterrania I personally like Aedes Siciliet Zone the best.
Funny thing about that, I actually suggested "Lost Temple" and "Lost Tunnel" back on the old project board. But El Dorado? Aedes Sicilliet? Come on, now. =P Anyway, my idea for act 2 was to have it based a lot on moving ruins, mainly up and diagonal - think the very end of Flying Battery Zone. The ruins would vary in speed, and depending on what path you take, it could make things easier or harder in terms of getting crushed to death. Act 2 could be almost completely autoscroll.
Okay, maybe I went a little overboard with the names, but I'm still thinking about it, right? I thought Latin would be good for the feel of the level, you know? Anyways, on the level design topic for this stage, I like your concept for Act 2 (of course for a long time I never saw that part of FBZ because I couldn't figure out how to hit the laser at the top of the screen beforehand DX). Do you think it should be sort of like "Welcome to the Machine" in Ecco, with the scroll changing directions every once in a while? Of course, I'm not suggesting that it should be as cramped as that, or have as many traps. I'm also thinking of a scene during gameplay to initiate the scrolling, like in Fault Zone in Ecco 2. I definitely like the path splitting. Could it, supposedly, cause a different starting point in the sewer for City Zone Act 1b?
The moving ruins sound like a good idea to me. Reminds me of Hill Top Zone, though. I agree with Phoenix that it shouldn't make the stage so cramped, and there shouldn't be so many traps. Just enough to keep the player moving. Also, the act shouldn't have so many moving areas. There should be spots in the level where the ground isn't moving, so the player can explore. Otherwise, with these concepts in mind, I was thinking the zone should either be named "Quake Tunnel Zone" or "Epicenter Zone."
I have this zone names in my S2 Hack: Haunted Mine Zone Underground Village Zone Mysterious Cavern Zone I know they're not good, but, I just want to help.
Hey Phoebius - I DID draw concept art for this zone --- where is it? You guys still working on transfering stuff I guess?
Yeah sorry about that... I'm very busy, and I hoped that Bjcharles would actually work a little, but I guess I was wrong. :/ I'll edit the first post as soon as I can
Name suggestions, taking the concept art in post 1 into mind... Buried Ruins Hidden City Burried Crater Lost Chasm Aquatic Cave (...Duh?) Yeah. I will probably think of more.
Well, now this changes everything. Since I now know that this is an underground city and not an underground cavern, I'd say name it something like "Cavern Palace Zone." You could also use: Flood Palace Zone Ocean Palace Zone Sea Palace Zone
There was a title I always wanted to use for an underwater zone, and since I'm never going to do a hack, might as well put it forward. "Sunken Twilight Zone".
Here's two names I really like: Underground Aqueduct Zone or Roman Labyrinth Zone (Roman Labyrinth... think like Marble Zone in Sonic 1, then in Sonic 3 there was a Marble Garden. In Sonic 1, there's Labyrinth Zone, and Sonic 4, there's Roman Labyrinth.)
Aquatic Ruin Zone? Edit: My first idea was Aquatic Mine Zone, but I think that Aquatic Ruin was also in another game. But maybe Aquapolis Terror Zone? Or maybe Aqua Metropolis?
Guys, you really need to play your Sonic games more before trying to come up with level names. :| Ocean Palace, Aquatic Ruin, and Aquatic Mine are all names already used in the Sonic games; Sonic Heroes, Sonic 2, and Sonic Adventure 2 respectively. I do like Resel's idea of using "Labyrinth" somewhere in the name, although I'm not too keen on the "Roman Labyrinth" name. Perhaps something like "Underground Labyrinth?"
Underground Labyrinth is cool. Definitely. Though I don't know, I think Roman Labyrinth would work if the level stuck to a Roman vibe, with pillars and stone sculptures of Robotnik dressed up as Caesar. (yeah, you know you want to see that!). But yeah, I think we totally need to use Labyrinth somewhere in the name.
Perhaps with a touch of irony I can't help but feel that one of the better names for the level would be Marine Maze as Aquatic, Hydro-, Labyrinth, Marble, and the like are already as tied to the specific identity of other zones as the word Emerald is. I suppose it's irony as I'm not really into the alliterative zone names as much.
