So I'm interested in a specific part of gaming history from the Dreamcast days and could use some help in generating a definitive list. I'm interested in games intended for the Dreamcast that eventually landed on other platforms back when Sega went third party. I can name a few off the top of my head but need some help generating something more accurate and definitive. The games I know of that were intended for the Dreamcast were: Super Monkey Ball GunValkyrie Ecco II: Sentinels of the Universe Toe Jam and Earl III: Mission to Earth And games or sequels that were released for other platforms were: Panzer Dragoon Orta Crazy Taxi III: High Roller Jet Set Radio Future House of the Dead III Obviously as you can see my recollection and resulting list is far from complete. Are there any articles or evidence out there that indicate which games were intended for the Dreamcast? I remember reading that Jet Set Radio Future was originally planned as Jet Set Radio 2 and was intended for the Dreamcast. That came from the Official Dreamcast Magazine (UK) at the time though who knows how accurate their information was. So help in building a list? Thanks in advance.
Well that was easy! Now I feel like an idiot given there's a comprehensive list already out there. I noticed that the list doesn't include titles like Super Monkey Ball. Was that game not intended for the Dreamcast then? Anyway apologies I'm an idiot. Thanks for posting the link here. The list is really great.
Find a source, and changes can be made. The original Monkey Ball was designed for NAOMI hardware, so in a roundabout way it is technically running on the Dreamcast, except it isn't.
Are we only counting Sega developed/published games? Because there were certainly a fair few third party games that started life on the Dreamcast before being moved to other platforms. Off the top of my head, obscure PS2 JRPG Ephemeral Fantasia was originally being developed for the Dreamcast, with Wikipedia stating: "The Dreamcast version of Ephemeral Fantasia was to feature cameos by Sega characters including Sonic the Hedgehog, Ulala, Ryo Hazuki, and, oddly enough, notable Sega developers Yu Suzuki and Yuji Naka." Other than that, there's also Soul Reaver 2, which I believe was almost finished before being moved to PS2. And I remember hearing rumblings somewhere about Gitaroo Man starting life as a Dreamcast game, but I can't find anything to back that up, other than... well, look at the game.
Out of curiosity why aren't Chakkan and Halo on that list. Those are the first two to come to mind I remember reading about in ODCM that didn't make it. Granted, Halo was being developed for a couple of platforms before it finally landed on the X-Box. Edit: In Chakkan's case it looks like it just doesn't have an article since it is in the list link on that page.
I also couldn't help but notice the list lacked the game "Fable" on it. I'd link the original interview, but the site seems to have been changed between the years and the links no longer lead to it.
Kids it's a wiki - if stuff isn't there, you add it Of course it's generally better if there's a source or two to actually back-up the claims. Not saying you're wrong, there might be tons - I just haven't read everything.
I've seen it said that Virtua Fighter 4 was intended to be released on Dreamcast until a Sony-exclusivity deal got in the way, but I've never seen a trust worthy source to validate the allegation. Apparently this was announced at E3 2002, but I can't find footage of that particular E3. Worth nothing that the arcade version did run on a variation of Naomi.
Easier said than done lol. I've never been able to log in to edit the wiki. I've asked for help on this a few times throughout the years and never have gotten the problem resolved. Case in point, I went to go make an edit to a page just last week and still couldn't log in. Pretty sure Halo was just wild speculation from ODCM. I have that issue and they sound really flaky about it. Their blurb in the preview is essentially, "they haven't announced it, and nobody told us it's coming, but it'd be a good fit!" much of Chakkan eventually became Blood Omen 2 on the Playstation 2.
