There is a lot of crap from South Korea that hasn't really been covered. And tons of unlicensed clone consoles. But when pirating Sega's products, usually the last thing they do is plaster "SEGA" on the box, so this one leads me to think otherwise.

However also note that in South Korea, Sega's consoles were distributed by Samsung. Japanese/Korean tensions and all that. This one doesn't appear to be.

and this one also looks like it was built for Robot Wars

this isn't an official product but it is called a "Game Dunk" and that is amazing.

Wow! That's awesome! I've never seen that variation of the Mega Drive before! I posted these pics on Sega-16 to see if the members there know anything about it. Hope that's ok. :)

In Korea, yes. But what's strange is that it isn't distributed by Samsung or called Super Alladin Boy, but Mega Drive. One member on Sega-16 said it may be a clone. Though he's not entirely sure. I would love to find out more information on this. Here's a Link. to the thread I created on Sega-16 for anyone that's interested.

In the bottom left, is that a Netscape Navigator logo?

Samsung's name in Korean has four symbols, not three...

Also I like how the box shows a different controller =P

Ok, got a little more info.

If it was indeed released after the Saturn launch then it might be actual Sega hardware inside, if not clone hardware. Which would mean it's probably not emulation based. Much like those emulation clones that are floating around in Model 2 cases that use atGames' shitty emulation based hardware.

If I remember correctly, some bootleg consoles use wireless TV antennaes, so that's likely one of them.

Man, that first MegaDrive looks so...Optimus Prime-like :v:

Korea was a nice market to search for "Alternate" stuff like these consoles, I also love China because of that, getting Ique Nintendo Consoles and stuff :P

You can see I have been going around trying to find this old thread :v: anyways, the controller is bit different from the "official" Samsung controller. The start button Is suppose to be above the abc buttons ... I will show what they look like when I get to find them in my basement :D

    Edit: forgotten thread

    Welp, this.
Since this thread has since been bumped, I just want to say that I actually now own that copy of Sonic Classics, and it definitely is legitimate and not a pirate copy—I know we had had some discussion as to whether the console itself was licensed, but this seems to be a good indicator that it might be.

    I do too!

But SS one thing you should know is that , sonic classics kr port is not licensed through samsung, hence it says megadrive 2 in Korean everywhere.

Yes — though we think HiCom was licensed by Sega or Samsung in this case, as they also published Insector X in South Korea... I know they did a bunch of totally unlicensed Master System games.
