Ambivalent about it being a follow-up to Forces and slightly annoyed that the Resistance is still a thing (not a fan of all the Sega characters being shoved into a rebel group). Also... man, that is starting to look like Sally, huh? Maybe she's been redesigned to look more Ricky-esque, sort of like StC Sally. Unless it's just a completely new character. Dunno. That's definitely not an echidna in the background of that cover, though. Just a generic Mobian with a bob cut.
You're looking at the one crouched behind Sonic right? Well, they have long hair and no visible ears, but they appear to also have a tail wrapped around them that's longer than an echidna's, and their nose doesn't match up with the snout most echindas have. So I don't know what animal that is, but I'd guess Knuckles is still the last of his kind.
I have a feeling that the new character might be based around Buddy, the default avatar character that Sega used to promote Forces. Since the story is based around Forces, it wouldn't surprise me.
Great so the first arc of this new series and were jumping into a....Forces adaption?! gross. We already had our Forces tie-in comics why muddle the new comic with it? Damn it Forces go away already or get better with mods.
https://twitter.com/Scott_Duvall/status/955984682805428224 Apparently a brand new character, so very likely not Sally. Forces does leave room for a more satisfying epilogue, if that's what they're going for. Good way to explore the world through cleanup duty. For example, where the fuck are the humans?
We can safely say it's a girl, since Sonic character design conventions dictate only female characters have eyelashes. My first thought was that she's holding a Burst Wispon, but the silhouette doesn't quite match. Maybe a new type of Wispon?
There's a Hesse cover. I like how he draws modern designs somewhere in between what we expect classic and modern to look like. https://twitter.com/sonicparadise/status/956143608784146432 Blaze is involved in the first arc. New character is named Tangle. Best girl already? Making up for lost issues, I see.
Wow Blaze is in as soon as the 4th issue. That's unexpected. Archie never really focused much on Blaze, I wonder if this comic plans on making her more of a main character. And actually, up until the Sonic Universe series they never really focused on Shadow either, and Knuckles was always off doing his own thing. I'm really interested to see what this comic does differently than Archie, as a lot of major characters were put in the background to make more room for the Freedom Fighters. Since they no longer seem to exist (at least they don't seem to exist in a major role) that saves a lot more room for others. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they can do without having to observe Archie's norms and Ken Penders' awful Knuckles bible.
Ironically, one of the canceled Archie issues was supposed to focus on Blaze. I'd like to imagine her early presence in the new comics is an apology for what happened at Archie.
