Anyone know any decent arcade parts distributors for either the UK or Australia? Google isn't being very helpful. I need a NAOMI 2 + GD Rom Drive compatible power supply unit. I can find US 110V PSUs relatively cheaply, but I'd rather get a 240V one to avoid the hassle of a step down transformer.

Sega Total Solutions (UK) may offer you a deal, but they're on the expensive side. Other than that, I'm pretty poor on sourcing parts, but I can certainly ask around.

Slowly building up my NAOMI 2 piece by piece. I have the mobo and DIMM unit, and have a GD drive and PSU on the way (settled for an American one, although still on the lookout for 240V). I've also sourced Senko no ronde, Radilgy noir and hopefully Exzeal if the distributor gets back to me.

The biggest issue is going to be a controller of some description. I was hoping to save money and avoid using a JAMMA I/O converter and/or a supergun, but I don't think I'm technically proficient enough to weave my own loom.

Ugh. I really wish Sega would just consolize the Ringedge already.

Compact Flash Conversion kit

Does anyone have any further info about these? I take it replaces the GD-rom system now that they are not manufacturing GDs, but what's the point? Were GDs particularly faulty? I know the dreamcast one's used to play up a bit, but surely in the arcades where they are only read once on start-up it wouldn't be an issue of wear and tear.

Unless they are still planning to support brand new releases for NAOMI, Chihiro and or TriForce on compact flash media?

They're definitely not, the conversion kit appears to be a fully unofficial product. Regardless of the reduced wear and tear on GD-ROM drives due to the way they operate, the drives are now becoming harder to maintain as official support has ended and the supply of parts is drying up. This is here for anyone who wants to run these games for a long time to come.

Ah, that makes sense. Silly me for assuming it was an official product.

Cross post with june pick up thread.

Got both Senko no Ronde and Senko no Ronde NEW VER. (Rev.A) for $150. I only thought I was getting the original, didn't realise I was getting Rev.A as well.

Now to finish building up my NAOMI 2 so I can actually play it.

It's alive, ALIVE!

I have my NAOMI 2 powered on and I can see the splash screen. I need an up-to-date BIOS to play the games, and I'm slowly getting together a jamma interface and control panel so I can actually play them. Will post pictures when my baby is complete and working.

Now to sort out my games list. So far I have:

Senko no Ronde
Senko no Ronde New Ver
Psyvariar 2: The will to fabricate
(already have on Dreamcast, but got it cheap)
Radirgy Noa/Radilgy Noir
Exzeal / Shooting Love 2007
(<3 This is basically what I bought a NAOMI for <3)

But what should be on my wish list? I have an extensive and near complete Dreamcast collection, so I'm mostly interested in stuff that never got a Dreamcast port

Dead or Alive 2 Millennium - Is this any different to the Dreamcast port?

Dynamite Deka EX: Asian Dynamite - A must buy

Illmatic Envelope (aka Illvelo) - I love my shmups, although this hasn't appeared to have really entered the 2nd hand market yet

Melty Blood: Act Cadenza
Melty Blood: Act Cadenza Ver B
- I should be right to just get Ver B, there's no real reason to get Ver A, right?
Melty Blood: Actress Again - And this is too new to find on the second hand market.

Sega Strike Fighter - Unfortunately, I think I need an analogue yoke stick for this one, which may prove difficult.

Azumanga Daioh Puzzle Bobble - A must buy, but rare and expensive

Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival
Guilty Gear XX#Reload
Guilty Gear XX Slash
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
- now these confuse me a little, it seems like there is little difference between the original X2 and #Reload, but the last 3 are sufficiently different to almost be sequels, correct?

Jingi Storm - a mediocre fighter but with strippers

Kuru Kuru Khameleon - A puzzler that sounds interesting, but perhaps too new and pricey at the moment

Lupin - The shooting
Lupin - The typing
- these sound awesome, but require specialist control (gun/keyboard) and I don't think I'm enough of a Jamma/JVS whiz to make them myself

Senko no ronde SP - A must buy but currently selling for $1500 new ._.

Tetris Kiwamemichi - Every system needs a copy of tetris

Virtua Fighter 4
Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution
Virtua Fighter 4 Final Tuned
- definitely need Final Tuned, but have also read that the stages were different in Evolution from the original, so if the stages in FT are the same as in Evo, I'm thinking of getting the original as well as FT. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Initial D
Initial D Stage 2
Initial D Version 3
- It would be nice to get these, but I'm not sure I can construct a steering wheel and pedals interface. I'd sure like to give it a go though

Anything else?

Also, were there any Dreamcast/other ports that weren't perfect or different enough to warrant purchasing the NAOMI version. For instance, I have Beach Spikers on gamecube, so is it worth getting the NAOMI ver?

Nope. You can even find it on Dreamcast (Its the latest JP version, not the shitty US one :E).

Act Cadenza Ver B is alright, most of the Melty Blood Scene is playing it (since it got a PS2 and Windows Port). Actress Again would be awesome, but like you said, its way to new :P

Between #Reload and Accent Core there are giant balancing touch-ups, along with some new characters and stages. Also Accent Core is the only GG played competitively on the GG scene right now after all.

Yeah, they changed tons of stuff between 4 and Final Tunned. I'd recommend getting only FT, because is the most updated one, but if you like VF4 just get both.

If you're gonna get one of these, just get the Version 3, it has all the content from 1 and 2, plus more cars, and stages, and challenges and shit. Totally recommended.

Nah, just get the naomi only games. I'd also recommend Jambo Safari and Monkey Ball too.

From what I've read, it's equivalent to the Japanese release but may have an extra outfit or two. The standard Naomi DOA2 was ported and released in the US and EU but I believe they added more outfits (plus modes) to the home versions. One difference between the arcade and home versions it that due to the slow read speed of the disc drives on the Dreamcast, you only got a default picture of your character at the selection screen whereas in the arcade version you got a real-time few of your character with whatever outfit you were selecting.

Edit: Looking up the release dates makes my statement unlikely...

Nov 1999 - Dead or Alive 2 - Naomi
Jan 2000 - Dead or Alive 2 Millennium - Naomi
Mar 2000 - Dead or Alive 2 - Dreamcast/PS2 (JP)
Sep 2000 - Dead or Alive 2 Regular and Limited Edition - Dreamcast
Oct 2000 - Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore - PS2 (NA/EU)
Dec 2000 - Dead or Alive 2: Hard*core - PS2 (JP)

Just to clarify further, Evolution added Brad and Goh to the character roster, as well as changing the stages and music. Final Tuned has changed stages yet again, but the music remains the same as it was in Evolution. No new characters added, but I understand there were a lot of gameplay changes.

Thanks for the info guys. Can't decide if it's worth getting Dead or Alive Millennium and Virtua Fighter Evo for the minor differences.

Also, how could I forget Mamoru-kun wa Norowarete Shimatta!? I Must have all G.rev software.

Also, Akatsuki Blitzkampf Ausf.Achse and Toy Fighter are a couple of exclusive beat-em-ups I haven't mentioned.

I couldn't tell you what the differences actually are. You should get DOA2M and DOA2 and document the differences. =P
