Yup, may be a later revision, judging by Vector's face and shoulders. EDIT: And chest, and arms. EDIT 2: Also, the bird has a neck here, just like Max the parrot. Perhaps this edit of the Sonic band was the first step towards what later evolved into Chaotix?
The Sonic the Hedgehog Story Comic Vol 1. uses Chunky-Vector and No-Neck-Sharps. So do the rare "holiday scenes" images (Vector is mostly obscured, but you can tell that he still has muscular arms). So I'm inclined to believe that this revision came later, after the release of Sonic 1. This Vector is very similar to the "Blues Brothers" Vector - more Chaotix-like face and build, but still wearing Sonic shoes.
Seeing how the irregularities in Vector's tail and their shadows look exactly the same, it looks like the new band image is a crude edit of the original black & white pic, rather than a redraw. Maybe just a quick fix for a pitch?

Damn, think you're right. Wish I knew sooner :v: For what it's worth though, it looks like the Sonic Adventure 2 "Original Story" is a later draft with many more details.
What I'm interested is in the illustrations on those slides like the girl wearing the jacket. Unless we have those already?

This was a really interesting panel to read though - the tweet showing how kids draw Sonic ("blue fireball") spoke to me on a deep level, given how non-existent my artistic abilities are =P
And their intent worked! I draw the blue rat and his friends all the time, but drawing Sonic inspired me to draw other things as well. Sonic inspired me to run as well back in middle school. Damn what would my life have been like had I first played Super Mario World I wonder.
Or it could be something like a one-way mouse trap, letting the flickies and such in (with bait) but not letting them back out. Next to the button on the capsule in the concept art is what almost looks like a crane or pulley... Could have been used by Eggman to haul the filled capsules away from the early zones and toward his base.
Is anyone able to make out the words in the first point in the "What does it mean to be cool" pic?
