    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
I don't want to see a spin-off game. I want to see a spin-off cartoon, staring Fang. He is a bumbling, Wario-esque treasure hunter who's constantly coming up with ridiculous, over-the-top schemes to gain riches, everything ranging from scams to pirate ships to ancient tombs to flat-out stealing it. He mostly foils his own schemes by accident, frequently as a non-obvious, indirect consequence of something seemingly unrelated he did earlier in the episode. Often, Team Chaotix will stop him. Rarely, Sonic & Co will make an appearance and foil his plans.

He's not evil, just greedy. He'll usually do the right thing, unless being a jerk benefits him more. Mostly he's just oafish and single-minded, doing everything for gain. Thinks he's a real smooth-talker, but isn't quite so much.

All in all, I think this idea fits him, gives more time to a sorely underused character, and has the potential not to completely suck.

  2. Actually, Fang would fit really well with my idea: a Knuckles spinoff. Now, I know Chaotix is kind of this, but I mean more with a focus on exploring levels a la Knuckles' levels in SA1 and SA2. Essentially, Mario : Sonic :: Wario Land : My suggestion.

"A mysterious foe has stolen the Master Emerald. You, as Knuckles, head after the thief to prevent your race's most powerful heirloom from being used for evil, and to save your homeland! You'll glide, punch, climb, dig, and swim your way across fantastic landscapes to get back the jewel! Explore every nook and cranny for treasure and new tools to help you on your adventure. And watch out for enemies both familiar and strange!"

Game design would be the 2.5D/3D hybrid that worked with Sonic Unleashed onward. In each level, the goal is to simply reach the end, where a Map Fragment is located. Each section requires Knuckles to use his unique skills to progress, such as gliding and climbing, or punching. The focus of each section in a level might vary, and while it might be easy to rush through an area, it would be helpful to Knuckles to explore the area and find secret treasures and, occasionally, power-ups that grant him new abilities, though none are required to progress to the ending. Rank in each level depends on treasures found (they reappear in later runs semitransparent), rings, and time.

Levels are divided into 3D hubworld islands (tutorial [Angel Island], island of nature, island of human and nature interaction [e.g. mines], island of cities, island of factories, and island of ruins). Each island has four levels, but the player only needs to beat two of his choosing (get two Map Fragments) to face the boss of the area and move on to the next island. The boss varies from area to area, but beating it always lets Knuckles catch a glimpse of his shadowy foe before he flees, Knuckles in pursuit. He'll run into other, minor opponents as minibosses in some levels, such as Fang and Eggrobo.

But wait! The endgame changes things:

The final boss reveals the mysterious foe to be Rouge. This game is a prequel to Sonic Adventure 2, and the last cutscene is Eggman splitting the Master Emerald into pieces.

After beating the final boss, you can now run each level in a second mode: each level has a designated section where three Master Emerald shards can be found in randomly-selected locations. Rank depends on how quickly you get all three, SA1-style.

Every 12 ME shards collected unlocks a classic SA1/SA2 level in both styles (shards in extra levels don't count), get-to-the-end and ME hunt, for a total of 60 shards across all regular levels, and 5 extra levels.

Collect all the treasures to unlock Rouge, who can ascend slightly when flying but is slower and her kick has a lower point of best effectiveness than Knuckles' punch.

Collect all the Master Emerald shards to unlock Fang, who has a jetpack instead of a gliding ability.

Complete all 5 extra levels to unlock Super Knuckles in levels.

Additionally, treasures collected all appear in the Hidden Palace on Angel Island for you to play around with.

Y'know, I just realized. There should be a Frogger clone starring Froggy, with the ultimate goal to be reunited with Big the cat at the end of the game.

Another idea I had: A real Chao Adventure game. A Spinoff with its own dedicated chao garden, and the main game would be like a Chao version of Hey, You! Pikachu!, except without voice commands, and using actual controls to move the Chao around to interact with objects, collect items, and do minigames.

It'd be also be cool to have another Tails or Knuckles game. If they were done well anyways- a dedicated treasure hunting game or mech shooting game would not please many aside the Adventure fans.

And I also think there should be more Sonic racing games. I'd definitely prefer a Sonic racing game where ALL the playable characters were on foot though, so that they can take advantage of how Sonic's new gameplay style is- drifts like a car and even turns as badly as one (in Unleashed anyway). If you got rid of most of the obstacles and designed it more like a race track, and added other characters, that would make for a great racing game. Collecting rings to maintain a boost bar would also be a mechanic similar to Riders' air gauge. Though with this criteria, under Sega's canon, the only playable characters would be Sonic, Shadow, Metal Sonic and Blaze (maybe even Silver too?). Nobody else seems to be able to boost, after all.

Honestly, I thought that a point-and-click adventure game based on Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog would be a pretty great idea, especially if it used the same sprite style as Mean Bean Machine. LucasArts style, with verbs for picking up stuff, talking, opening/closing things, etc, maybe with a 'Spin' verb that would make Sonic spin attack whatever you use it on. No chance of dying, but maybe if you fuck up hard enough you'd have to solve a puzzle to escape from Robotnik. I guess the game would be set across Mobius, with Sonic using his speed to go to different locations on a world map. I guess Tails could also

I'm not really sure how puzzles would work, though. Maybe Tails could follow you around, like Max from Sam & Max, and you could use him for puzzles.

A music game. If Final Fantasy can do it, why not?

I've always had this idea, but sometimes I feel like it's easier said than done.

So basically, there should be a game where you can upload a song and it will generate a level based on said song, like Audiosurf, Beat Hazard and so on. The level would play sorta like a traditional Sonic level, except there are no enemies and the level is constantly moving, so you always have to stay in momentum. Of course, the level design would be a tad more linear, but hey, I wouldn't complain.

Automatically generated content from music really only works for certain types of games. Sonic probably isn't one of them considering how much the overall gameflow hinges on careful design rather than chance. :|

Heck, Rhythm Zone (which is a straight off rip of Guitar Hero/Rock Band etc) is god-awful to play because of autogenerated content. And that's as music-game as music game gets in terms of genre.

Sonic Shuffle is a great, fun game and it is completely shameful there has been no sequel.
This is an opinion I will hold for the rest of time.

Secret Rings' party mode showed how much fun party-style games could be on the Wii, but the half-assedness of the party mode as a whole in that game made it kind of boring/monotonous (for those who haven't played, it was essentially "keep playing mini games to earn rings, then spend them in one of a few "overarching" games"). I still play Sonic Shuffle with my siblings when I'm home from school and even with only 5 stages and a handful of mini games that haven't changed since the beginning of the millenium, it hasn't worn on me a bit. The only things that really sucked about it were cheating AI and load times, but the DCRES project released a patched image that reduced load times quite a bit.

This ... isn't a bad idea. Tweaking it a little though.

Imagine a Chaotix style Professor Layton / Phoenix Wright / Mystery Case Files / Hotel Dusk style game where you have to solve mysteries and stuff to get down to the bottom of a case.

I haven't read the comics so to me the Chaotix are a detective agency who don't actually detect (except for Sonic Heroes but that doesn't count).

    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
It seemed they were doing SOME detecting in Shadow the Hedgehog, too, though it was never made quite clear what they were trying to take data from Eggman's and the ARK's computers.

I can also see the Chaotix in one of those kinds of investigative adventure games, though.

What I could also see would be a game starring Rouge along the lines of "Metal Gear light edition," so to say. Like, sneaking around and all that but without 2 hours worth of opening cutscenes, much as I personally like Sonic cutscenes. :B

This is easy. A true Sonic SHUMP. You would take control of Sonic and Tails via the Tornado. The game would be in the likes of ThunderForce 4 but with 2D and 3D segments. The 3D segments would be like the Sky Chase mini-game from SA1 but better. You would also be able to upgrade the Tornado and as an unlockable bonus you can play as Dr. Robotnik in his Death Egg suit. The levels could even be from the Classic games or something totally new. Hell, I'd by it! :v:

EDIT: Very rough sketch I did during lunch break to visually show what I mean:

This has serious potential to become a multiplayer mode for Sonic games in the future.

It's not that far of a stretch:
1.) At least six original looping tracks to race on.
2.) Expand that players to allow at least 2-4 people simultaneously. Hell, they could just be those Sonic recolor robots from Colors if you guys start fighting about why Amy could boost or something.
3.) Have that orb be a selectable power in a menu before the race starts, or if non-Sonic robots are used, have the powers character specific, Smash Ball style.

That'd be a fun little mode on top of a standard race mode.

    +1

Each character with unique gameplay + same Sonic stage = WIN.

I don't know Sonic Team discontinued the idea of chao gardens, especially since it added replay value via rpg elements, HUB world, getting rings, and small competitions, but I've always felt that was a good thing to expand.

A few years back, I thought of a game where Knuckles built traps, mines, and switches all over Angel Island while Sonic raced through them.

I think I'd love to play a hack like this. e.g. you have to slow him down a certain minimal amount (in order for Robotnik to have his chance, or whatever) to proceed.

In the same vein, MarkeyJester recently showed a screenshot of Robotnik with a net, going after a rabbit. Things like this - role reversals, changes in gameplay that could make the same levels seem totally new, etc. - should be tried out more often. Hint hint!

A Knuckles treasure hunting game albeit drastically different to the ones in the Adventure games, would be pretty cool IMO.

It would essentially be a platformer with many puzzles and traps.

Or until Sega realizes how much they ought to get cracking on a project like that and eventually release a worthy sequel.

Because I really think should, that's why. =P

  20. I would love any spin-off game featuring one of the series' huge cast of characters. Plenty of them would work great in other genres. It'd be wonderful to see more games along the lines of Tails Adventure and Tails' Sky Patrol.

I mean hey, if Luigi's Mansion, Wario Land, Wario Ware, Super Princess Peach, and Yoshi's Island can exist, why can't we get a Big the Cat fishing game? Or a Robotnik RTS? Or a Chaotix point-and-click adventure?
