Sega Pico/Beena Thread.

Discussion in 'General Sega Discussion' started by Kiddo Cabbusses, May 9, 2010.

  1. Hello. I decided to make this thread as I was working on The Japanese Sega Pico Game entry article, which is a heavy workload.

I don't really know what much to put in this thread, but perhaps other folks here have stuff to contribute? Besides the list there, I got some Youtube uploads of Pico games which can be viewed here

I do know that there's a lot of Japan (and apparently Korean or other Asian) Sega Pico releases that have become completely obscure due to the apparent turn-off archivning a "Edutainment" game console. Rather unfortunate, as some of the Pico games are full of bizarre novelty value, ranging from the full-frontals of Cutey Honey Flash to the IMPOSSIBLE of Pokemon games on a Sega console.

You guys can also use this for a general Beena thread if anything more on that comes up. I know nothing about it though.

Just picked a PAL Pico up for a fiver. These things are region free correct? Would love to find that Sonic Gameworld game..

  3. I don't know how it works for a PAL Sega Pico, but there is certainly no region protection blocking my US Pico from running JP Pico games.

I suspect they'd probably just run slower and with borders if thats the case, thanks. :)

  5. Super bump time. Did anyone see the new Sega Pico dumps on the no-intro forums?

    They're available here currently. http://www.axifile.com/en/5068C5EBAE

I'll up them on my own webspace shortly.

    The interesting thing about this batch is that it's all European/PAL-region games;

EDIT: And then after I make this post I find the ROM dumper site, durp!

    http://team-europe.blogspot.com/

Team-Europe is hoping to be able to get much of the Japanese games. I'd like to ship my copies for dumping if the costs were reasonable...

I bought a PAL pico a few years ago and at the time bought US copy of Sonic's Gameworld - and worked/works fine :v:

Oi, just now I see this thread.

Does anybody know what's the hardware of the Beena?

  8. I think GerbilSoft might know, but the best I got is "It's not Megadrive-based and it's not compatible with the Pico".

There's a few Youtube ups of Beena footage and TV Ads.

Some stuff I found that I distributed over the #sega to kiddo , but posting it anyway over here :U

Lul its in korean none of you can read it (Smugface)

anyways...Sega pico was released through Samsung as usual. Launch titles were "A Day at a Kinder Garden(?)" which were fully translated along with "Adventures with Mickey Mouse" and the other 13s. The consoles were 19,80,000 won. Games were 39600 won. (Which is like $198 for the console, Man thats crazy! Considering Megadrive was like 10,00,000 won) and ($39.6 for games)

EDIT: DERP GUYS ITS NOT $1980

    EDIT2: [IMG]

  10. The most interesting note about that picture is that it specifically shows how those special accessories interface.... through the actual Pico cartridge. O_O

  12. In the Korean-texted picture, I can identify 101 Dalmations and The Magic School Book. I don't know what the latter two are but based on the picture they're games that used the two accessories shown. I think the Pico also has a Pooh game inside.

In the expo-like thing, the kids there are playing Mushiking. Mushiking is pretty notable for being a frnachise Sega tried to push, so it probably warrants special attention.

The Pokemon game shown in the 3rd pic is one I don't have, and is the third of the three, IIRC.
I still have video of the "Hiragana Katakana Kakechatta!" game on Youtube.

Do Beena games work on that? I was under the impression Beena was a more powerful system, so should depart somewhat from the MD HW....

What's the copyright on the Pokemon games?

Do Pico games have serial numbers? (tying into the T series code discussion)

Do we have media scans, not just dumps?

(all of the above here, but for Beena)

Do we have a list of Beena games? I know less of Beena than Pico.

That list is probably copied straight from the official Beena website.
