Somari Secrets

Discussion in 'Technical Discussion' started by True Dude, Apr 13, 2008.

  1. I was searching around on Youtube recently when I found this video. apparently, this guy messed around with Somari and Sonic 3D Blast 5/6 for the NES and found some interesting tid-bits left out of all three of the games. Could there possibly have been more pirated versions of this game?

That level select is a pretty nice find. I stuck it on the wiki so it won't get lost again. Who knows how many times they recycled this game though. It's pretty clear they meant to do it at least once or twice more.

There is more hidden in the ROM than the video shows, for example, there are Motobug sprites as well as speed shoes, plus they seem to have alternating sprites, duplicates for each act.

A quick look around in TLP gives enough information about it.

Also there is 2 versions of Somari, one with the level select and special stage, one without.

I'd like to know what you mean by "reveals".

But he's talking about the later Sonic hacks, which aren't supposed to have that.

I already knew about the Sonic & Knuckles title screen... I think the original cartridges used some kind of internal dipswitch to swap between titles, but I don't remember where did I read about that.

I believe there was a title called "Family Kid" for the NES that was identical to Somari.

    Doing anything at all
Is it just the resolution of the video, or do Sonic's pushing sprites look like Mighty's (Look at his eyes!)?

  11. Interesting, I didn't know there was an alternate Mario start screen, or a Sonic & Knuckles screen. And also, I noticed in the sprite sheet that Sonic's running sprites were Sonic's upper half slapped on to Somari's running sprites.
