So I've got this huge vault of SADX hacking material...

As some of you may have figured, I don't spend alot of time hacking anymore. Not a whole lot of time for it, and I'm learning how to program my own games instead of just editing ones that are already out there. There's a little over 5 GB of material here, dating back to about 2008, with some older material from 2002 in there as well. There are things in here like source code for import/export scripts, tools, ALL of the development material for sonic RDX, the dev material for mushroom zone, an old x-hax site backup, all of my personal research on code/memory locations as well as a series of cheat tables, a giant archive of just about every modified texture I've ever made, etc. There are camera layouts in here, level designs (both new, deleted, and never released). Obviously it's a little too big to upload and just toss on the internet but since I don't think I'll release anything new in the next few years, what I want to know is does anyone want all of this stuff?

If you do want a copy of it, I'll put it onto a DVD with a text file in the root directory explaining what/where most of the juicy things are but there's no way I'd be able to document it all.

Dude, I'm proud of yah. Making your own stuff is the way to go. (Though, before you posted this, while I was playing Sonic Generations PC, I wondered if you would adapt to Sonic Generations and continue making stuff for it instead of SADX. Well now I know the answer.)

Oh, do want! There's no place for you to upload it?

  4. Why don't you upload it all on a decent file hosting service? Use Megaupload or something like that. Just rar everything up, split it into 1 GB chunks, and then upload them so everyone who wants your stuff can use it

Easier and cheaper than sending people DVDs I'd imagine

  5. What about sharing via a torrent? You can use OpenBitTorrent's tracker, which does not list torrents, and keep some control on where the torrent is shared, by only posting the torrent file in places you wish for it to be seen. Alternatively, you could just upload it to a public tracker such as The Pirate Bay if you don't mind the files ending up available that publicly.

If it's general SADX hacking material that can be useful for others (e.g. research, hacking programs etc.), upload it onto the wiki (assuming of course it's not already up there). The "wikification" and formatting can be done later.

Levels and models and that sort of thing can be shoved in a ZIP or a RAR or whatever and shoved on some big filesharing website or whatever. Would take a while, but certainly a better option than burning things to disc (and even if you did that... chances are someone would then take the contents and upload it onto the net).

    being an asshole =P
If it's big enough to warrant a DVD of its own, then chances are that putting all this data in the wiki, even if unformatted, would take ages.

Although I'm not involved in the hacking of the 3D games, I do enjoy playing the hacks. The problem I can see is, if you release all of your actual work I can see a lot of hacks coming about using what will pretty much be a cut and paste effort. What I would like to see however, is you releasing all of your notes to the community, but reserving your work for someone deserving of it, who can continue what you started and put the same amount of quality and effort in as what you have. The last thing I would want to see is for your work to be the spindash/jumpdash of the 3D community, one of the main things I admired about your hack was the originality.

Just my opinion though, I do think it'll be hard to find someone who would dedicate the same time and effort to it.

My assumption is a big chunk of the 5GB is down to level assets like textures and sounds (which we wouldn't need). But the various tools and documentation on memory locations etc. could come in handy, and I'm doubting they'll be huge.

Is there anything in those lists that I don't know about?

probably not a whole lot, just some oddball stuff like the locations of vertex animation data.

This is so sad to hear!, even though I've not posted on these forums much, I've been lurking around the communities for years. First on sonic cult back in the day, then Retro from back when SOST was still being updated, and for the record I Loved Shadow adventure it was a little slice of magic pie for me back when I was at school (middle school?, I'm from the uk) I showed all my mates and took all the credit lmao,

I've all ways had a fondness of all things sonic especially the (good) hacks and loved playing them all, including every pcm hack you uploaded to your old site, you're cool discoveries about sonic adventure, including Sonic RDX which I allways hoped you'd one day complete and after reading this I oficially feel old :(!
So I've crawled out of the rock I live under, to declair my mancrush (I kid I kid)
Plus Its my 19th birthday in 11 days, so I may as well start posting more after being a trial member for over 4 years now!

And I just wanted to say on behalf of everyone like me, Thank you for everything you've done, your input to the community programs, hacks, and discoveries SADX related will continue on to inspire then next generation and the magic it gave us non Techies will stay in our hearts forever, and like sanik said, I just allways assumed you would carry on aswell, never actually thinking you were a real person, you know...one with a life anyway ahaa

I know this sounds like a eulogy but it feels like a little bit of my sad lonely inner child has died, speaking of him gimme gimme gimme moAr Hax HarHarHar, and if your stuff gets posted to the net, if easily playable, I'll deffo play it!
cause deep down I side I'm still a Noob with a huge crush on sonic!
This Dude deserves an honour in my eyes!!! lmao ima go cry now

edit: mainmemory's still here! btw I wouldn't mind that DVD if you've got playable stuff just for the inner noob

You've made some of the best stuff for Sonic Adventure DX Dude. What you finished of Sonic RDX was great and that Mushroom Hill level was also quite impressive. I'd hate to see all of your stuff die, so I really think the best way to share this would be via torrent. If you don't want to waste bandwidth uploading it all, perhaps someone like me can upload it if we get a dvd of it all. Thanks for everything, and I really look forward to your future projects, coded by you! :D

OK, I've got the archive assembled and am now burning DVDs. PM me if you want one. I'll give priority to those who will try and put it on the internet or otherwise propagate it.
