True, a lot of this is probably subject to change. I hope that at the very least they change Sonic's running animation. Still, it's a real shame to see Runners' style pretty much completely gone here.
So someone is going to rip all those sprites from the Java ME version right? we let Unleashed Mobile slip away and never got a real proper sprite set from that game.
Nice, thanks man. Really sounds like something I'd like to play, but like TimmiT said, the visuals really are a shame. There's a really good chance this is what will ruin what potential this game has if they don't do a full overhaul as ASAP as possible. But Gameloft, it sounds like you done good, but seriously, redesign that webpage. Holy moley don't make me want to do a virus scan on your official website. Surprised it's out on soft launch this soon and I wish Gameloft and the devs best of luck. If they can just redo the visuals, make new music, this can be real good - and I want it to be real good! They have a chance on highlighting everything Runners did well and then some.
They're really aren't that many sprites to begin with. The game is essentially all 3D models, and if not that, screenshots of said 3D models. It's why the story character icons look off. And to be fair, everyone will be able to get the game off the Google App store soon enough. It wont be this Russian sketchy nonsense like it is right now. Visuals and soundtrack wise I can't give as much reassurance, but overall I'll say it's a far better game than the original Runners, and everything looks a lot better in motion than it does in stills.
Yeah, I have to admit, it looks better in motion. I have a way easier time distinguishing the background from the foreground when everything is moving. If they aren't going to overhaul the visuals in Green Hill I'll be okay with it if they just keep the critique in mind for the next locations and events they add. This is still a soft launch after all.
So hey, some spoilers: Spoiler Chapter 1: Green Hill Zone Chapter 2: Desert Ruins Chapter 3: Lava Mountain Chapter 4: Sky Sanctuary (Oooh, a not Lost World motif) After that I got nothing
Bought it. Felt like the shadiest thing I've ever done online but anyway got the game. But yeah it is a better playing game than the original Runners at least. Gameplay overall seems to be a pretty good improvement. Just again the presentation is a bit of a disappointment.
Umm, wasn't talking about the smartphone version. unless this is some kind of wonky 3D and my eyes are fooling me.
Oh. I have no idea about that. I thought those were some bootleg shots or some really low system spec shots. And here it is folks. Post 10,000.
So, I'm confused; is this just a cheap J2ME joint for Chinese feature phones or is there also an iOS version?
The game is for Android and presumably also iOS in the future. There's a separate J2ME version of the game as well.
https://youtu.be/1-JxeyCBUAI (warning, shitty footage) This is the first footage I saw of this game. They forgot how Shadow's shoes work lmao.
Just finished Green Hill. Gameplay wise it's... well it's definitely Runners to a T. It's fun enough I guess. Really not a fan of the constant cinematic moments where you don't control anything though. And DAMN did this make me appriciate the original Runners art, this is just... barf. It's certainly much less money-grubbing than the original too... I don't think there are even in app purchases actually. Gotten plenty of buddies and characters just by playing. But it costs money to buy the app so that's likely why.
I mean Sonic Runners under the hood was a good game... it was just weighed down so much by Japanese mobile game bullshittery. Also that storyline must have cost so much money to translate for something so useless. Paid game or free with a far nicer sensibility would work pretty well.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think they have actually written a new story for this game (The original began with Sonic & Tails rescuing animals, but this one seems to start with Sonic rescuing Flicky). Is it possible to install the game without needing a phone number. I'd like to put this on my tablet, which doesn't have a number. Also, if it doesn't install is it possible to get a refund?
So I bought the game. Yeah, it's a new version of Sonic Runners alright. It plays really well on my Redmi Note 3 Pro. That's all I can really report on after completing 5 stages of Green Hill. I think you may be right about the story. As for installing on tablets, I'm not sure. It may be worth contact the customer support, which can be accessed in the settings menu of the game.
I beat the game. The 4th area is Sky Sanctuary (which plays Generations' Sky Sanctuary Classic theme). There are 47 levels total. Currently the game is far more bare bones than the final Runners version was, but it's a more solid experience. I think they'll be able to make something out of this if they keep working on it. I think like an arcade mode separate from the story would with leaderboards might add a lot to the game. Btw it's very easy to not only get all the characters, but it's easy to max them all out. I have all 9 characters and they are all at max levels.
AHEM Meanwhile, I've been digging into the assets of the Android APK, and here's some notes: -The .JET files in the assets directory are just PKZIPs with a unique extension. That's good because reversing the unique compression format in Unleashed Mobile was a dumpster fire. -Models have a .PIG extension. Most likely a custom format. -Textures are stored as .TGA but the alpha data is split into a secondary file so nothing can load these as-is AFAIK. -The .VOXPACK files are the audio archives. I'm not sure how to decompress these, but all the base game audio is in there. -The fonts are just .TTF files! Hell you can install them in your OS of choice. FREE FONTS -The .TEXTS files are the string archives. I've poked around inside the English archive (en.texts) and uhm... ...anti-cheat for an offline game? Buhhh???
They probably have leader boards or something planned and don't want people to exploit the fact it's a single player game. Also, for those just tuning in, keep in mind the game is a Russia only soft launch at this current time so if you spend money, don't expect to be obliged to Google Play policies or what not if it doesn't function on your system. So act accordingly if you're worrying about spending money now and wait for it to at least reach Google Play through your region.
