Thanks for the heads up dude - but yeah there's zero hype surrounding this game. And I'm the creator of this thread as I was initially super hyped for it. But that was back when we knew nothing and genuinely believed this might be a spiritual successor to Sonic R given the marketing and everyone was much more excited. This'll be a solid game, maybe even excellent, but it seems so uninspired.

That said EGX is coming on September 21 (this Friday) so there'll likely be a media blow-out around then. For those still interested at least.

Either all the demos are at 50cc, or a Sonic racing game is painfully slow. If it's the former, you cannot hype a game about going fast starring a fast character this way. There are some neat bits to the Rooftop Run track, like the wall riding, but it's not being conveyed as exciting if it's moving at the speed of tram.

As usual, the concept isn't bad, it's just that the execution will undoubtedly be subpar. We've already confirmed Tails saying, "Who's your Daddy?" to which I reply, "You're fucking EIGHT YEARS OLD!".

I played this today. It was pretty much exactly what you'd expect it to play like, for better or for worse. It controls fine and feels like the prior racing games, and the wisps are a lot better than the previous games’ items. The frame rate was choppy as hell though, which they really should have fixed by now. I played as Blaze and got 8th place because I am garbage at video games. From what I could hear her ultimate theme was a brief cover or remix of Vela Nova.

Iizuka and Jun were on stage when I finished playing but I didn't stick around to watch since I only had about an hour left before the show was over.

You see, never knowing his real father, Tails is asking around for daddies. It's really a pretty somber moment in Tails' development.

Regarding the framerate; the build of the game is probably pretty old. Even if it's not the exact same demo that we've seen before, chances are that it was still compiled a while ago. You can't really say that they should have fixed the framerate by now because. It's often something that comes late in development anyway.

Wait a sec. At 7:37 on the results screen. Is that Mania music? It's the results screen theme I think. Yet earlier in the video team Sonic had a different results screen theme. Maybe you get the Mania remix randomly.

But yay! The 1st sign of Mania seeping into the mainline games :v:/>

Well didn't that already happen in Forces with Classic Sonic and the little Mania theme when he appears?

(Studiopolis should definitely make it in as a track though.)

Ya true but hey this game doesn't tie into either directly so it's pretty cool.

I hope we have a Mania track too.

You're mistaken, Mania is the mainline game. TSR and Forces are the 3d spinoffs. Easy mistake.

That said, I kinda wish Classic Sonic and the rest of the Classic cast would show up. Not as racers but just in the stands, watching. I'm curious to see how Sumo Digital would handle them.

So are we gonna address the fact that there was a Jun Senoue cover of Can You Feel the Sunshine in the TGS stream or nah?

Fair point :v: Well either way, it's nice seeing Mania stuff being included in non Classic Sonic games. It's a small influence sure but given how fast they went back to that back for material it might be a good sign in the long run. I'm hoping Sega learned something from Mania that can be applied to future titles, Classic or otherwise. And it would be neat seeing the Classic cast exist in some kind of supporting way.

And as far as the Can You Feel the Sunshine cover, no idea. Do we have a link to that? Speaking of which though, given the reuse of the "R" logo and the reuse of previous locations, there better be a Sonic R track here.

    Trying to be useful somehow.
I thought that I heard some music of Sonic Adventure on that last video, but I'm most probably wrong.

Anyone else feel like the reveal/promotion of this game has been handled kinda funny?

Like, I will probably pick up the game but I feel as though it's been hard to feel "hyped" as the info roll-out has been unnecessarily vague and drawn out. Kinda muddied up the hype. Just me?

Ya it's hardly been promoted on social media at all.

They did a great job with Mania of course but for most other games they've been kinda "eh." Not exactly a vote of confidence.

Recall that their first reveal for this game was an obtuse twenty-second clip of zoomed-in shots of Sonic's car in the dark, and a silhouetted logo; which highlighted the Sonic R letter logo adapted within the game's title, even though the actual game we've now seen has virtually nothing in common with Sonic R.

The current marketing strategy for Sonic games has been grade-A quality barusa. Don't get me started with how Mania and Forces were handled with their advertising.

  19. What teed you off about the marketing for those games? Just curious about your perspective.
Also, isnt that on some level, a sign that Sonic is maybe not getting the investment from SEGA it used to? If it were the case, then perhaps Sonic is finally dying a quiet death...or heading towards that anyway.

Sonic's not getting an investment from Sega of Japan at least, and why would he? Sonic performs poorly in Japan and probably always will, and Sega's current offerings seem to scream "LOVE US JAPANESE PEOPLE" (Yakuza, Persona series, Puyo, Miku, etc).

Sonic seems to be in an awkward transition period where Sega of Japan is trying to dump him off to Sega of America/Europe. SoJ has no idea what to do with him anymore (Lost World, Runners, Forces) and SoA, SoE, and various 2nd/3rd parties have picked up the torch (Mania, Sonic 1/2/CD mobile, Forces Speed Battle, this game).

I also don't think the current PR team knows how to market Sonic games. They know how to market the brand, but outside of Mania they seem to be lost. It doesn't help that Sonic's identity is confusing as all hell, what even is a Sonic game anymore?

Sonic Stadium had an interesting preview of the game tbh. It kind of shows how they're poorly marketing this game. They're not showing off the team aspect properly and they're just showing more how it's a standard kart racer. If you just view the game as that though it pales in comparison to ASRT, but if you include the thought process behind helping not only yourself but your team the game suddenly finds more meaning. They also said though that the game should be delayed for additional polish and I do agree with that, and honestly seeing as how the release date is still "winter" that's a very real possibility.
