Downloaded the rom earlier and put it on my everdrive, the options level worked but the game crashes as soon as I start it. Checked the rom and noticed it says 'for gens only' emulator? Is there a version that will play on original hardware? The hack looks wicked :-)
It's a pretty old hack that's not seen an update for long time, it was worked on before hardware accuracy was really a huge concern or people had access to test on accurate emulators or hardware... Unless the original programmers have the code and come back to clean it up, I don't see it happening unfortunately... Of course people could try to patch it, but that's probably more effort than it is worth anyway.
Unfortunately, I don't think the original author is anywhere around here these days, as his last access to this forum was almost one year ago. But yeah, I remember playing his hack back in the day, it was pretty good.
Thanks for the replies, tried a 2005 year version and it plays ... Just! Very glitchy and not happy. Shame that as the gameplay video on YouTube looked great!
Myself (and likely many others) would offer to debug and fix the errors (patch it as Natsumi suggested), but, the original owner isn't around to get permission from to hack the ROM. There seems to be a bit of a "respect" thing around here in the community, many have gotten into trouble for hacking/disassembling other people's works without consent. So it's kind of an awkward situation too.
Ahh that is a shame, I've been playing a few hacks on my YouTube channel on my MegaDrive. Is there any other quality as good hacks for original hardware?
Some time ago, someone made a compatibility list on the SSRG forum, it's outdated at its best since it's from a few years ago, but you can use it as a reference point for older hacks, whereas most recent hacks usually care more about hardware compatibility to begin with.
