So what should it be changed to? Everyone seems to have an opinion.

Also if someone doesn't make Hank Hill Zone soon I will have to just do it myself.

"The common reuse of words in zone names" sounds like a more appropriate title.

Ahh the Zone names, I do wonder why they used Zone at the end of everything back in the day, the best explanation is that it sounds cool...and it does. Though with later games and stages, I didn't mind that they dropped the Zone title, though with other games like the Advance series and 4's episodic run, it always gives me the Zones I love.

Also here's a list of Zone names!

Emerald Grove Zone
Marble Ruin Zone
Casino Carnival Zone
Aquatic Tempest Zone
Mushroom Jungle Zone
Genocide Gimmick Zone
Giga Speedway Zone
Toxic Quadrant Zone
Mystic Valley Zone
Dusty Dazzle Zone
Volcanic Hill Zone
Winter Paradise Zone
Angel Sanctuary Zone
Sky Carrier Zone
Cosmic Egg Zone
Doomsday Way Zone

Pretty badass names if I do say so myself! ...I think I just might have made a fangame with zone names like this...

To be fair they have made some good names nowadays, like for the Advance series, 4 has some good names, some obvious ones, and a few weak ones like Oil Desert and White Park, the levels are cool and all but those names a pretty weak sause compared to other games, I mean they fit sure but still. Though they are coming up with more original names for Zones like Mad Gear and Sylvania Castle, which are good names for Zones.

"the popular act of correcting a topic's name instead of discussing its subject"
goodness why can't we just let people make up words for fun

the thing about reusing specific words in zone names is not many have seen heavy reuse. the big ones are, of course, "hill," "casino," "night," "emerald," "carnival," "green," and "ruin." nothing else really sees as much reuse, and zone names that lack those commonly-used words are usually pretty unique. I personally like how first-levels often have "hill," "green," or "emerald" in them; it makes for a nice familiar feeling before the games thrusts you into the really new content.

Yeah, it's best for Sonic games to start off with a traditional tropical, green setting at first. Granted I don't mind games that start off differently (Sonic 2 8-bit, Colors), but the first level that's like that always brings me home. Also it's always nice to see what they will do differently in each of these first levels, those levels always impress me with their music and what they have. For Naka and Sonic Team in Sonic 1, they had a big focus on Green Hill Zone to make it the perfect first level, they made it so and now each "hill" level that starts off as stage 1 pretty much as to be perfect, I think they've always had that right in each new game for the first level, granted there are some I favor over others but still it's good to have tradition sometimes.

As for the other reused words, you can never go wrong with any of them! Though I would like to see more uses of words like "toxic", "spring", "wacky", "cave", "jungle", "aquatic", and "speedway".

When games start off with anything but tropical/hilly levels it just blows my fuckin' mind! I remember playing SA2B for the first time and knowing that the game was gonna be kick-ass. Same goes for Advance 3 and Colours. It's nice to have a change now and then but it's something that should really be reserved for every five or so years because there generally does need to be some coherence within the series.

I am really looking forward to seeing the next main series game!

Hold on now, what's not tropical about Tropical Resort?

Don't get me wrong, it has some tropical themes with the trees, but the level is mainly a carnival theme level. Funny, it's not really that Tropical, it's the least tropical stage I've seen in the series. Come to think of it, it's not really that carnival themed of a level, the more appropriate name for the level's theme would have to be hotel, it's a hotel level.

...well, it IS a resort.

Hotel Resort? Or Tropical Hotel? Either way they're not really going to substitute the word tropical or resort in way which makes the level sound decent.

It is very tropical; look at the design of everything in the level. It has loads of palmtrees and plants and It's obviously meant to mimic some sort of fiesta with all that confetti too. It's kinda even like a mix between Apotos and Rooftop Run but in space but with totem poles and fire and stuff.

Yeah, it does have a tropical feel, though to me it looks quite different from the normal first level of a Sonic game. To be honest I didn't like Tropical Resort all that much when I got Colors, after the 3rd Act the level got bland and the music, while good, got annoying after awhile. It has been a long time since I played Colors, maybe I'll give it another shot, as the level looks really good!

Though my personal favorite level in Colors has to be Planet Wisp, my GOD that place is beautiful, and the whole place reminds me of Sonic CD all over again.

Yeah, it's a shame it has that really annoying sticky Wisp that decides not to work sometimes!

Sylvania Castle is the worst zone name I've come across so far. It isn't catchy, it doesn't roll off the tongue, and it sounds like a good place to be murdered.
