Seeing as this *is* Mega CD discussion, has the compression algorithm for the Sub-CPU BIOS for the Sega CD ever been discovered? (If not, I will utilize the Sega CD BIOS disassembly to find it :P)
Apparently somebody either hasn't watched the video in the first post, read the other posts, is stubborn, has poor taste, is trolling and doing it badly or they just don't want to put forth the effort to look up what titles are good or bad and want to just say they are all bad based on experiences with overrated FMV titles. Seriously, if you haven't, read through this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sega_CD_games There are hidden gems in this treasure box and you'll find them if you at least look first. Also, for an awesome Sega CD game, look at my Sig. Meh, I still have a few EC CD videos I haven't shown yet: Its not an enhanced port of the Genesis game, Eternal Champions either. Its an enhanced and more balanced sequel with new characters, playable final opponents and other unlockable secret characters. Hell you even get to fight as a chicken and a freaking monkey for crying out loud. (and they aren't furries either. They are just a regular Chicken and Monkey) In other words its a console exclusive that was released close to the end of the Sega CD's lifespan when nobody was paying attention to it. This was a great game... I just didn't get noticed. Similar to how the Genesis games Ooze and Comix Zone didn't because of the Saturn. Kind of sad. It was going to have a third game for the Saturn but sadly...... it never came to be because Sega of Japan forced the devs to stop production even before it started out of fear of competition with Virtua Fighter.
Apparently someone is butthurt over his favorite not being everyone else's favorite. You win, ahahahaha.
It isn't even called Flying Squadron because it's a platformer, not a shoot'em-up (reminder: find out what was exactly the name of that game).
Keio Yuugekitai is the japanese title, which technically translates to Keio Raiding Party or Keio Commando Unit. Flying Squadron is pretty accurate.
One thing I could never figure out how to do is burn a working copy of a Sega CD game. I came pretty close to getting it right, I even burned a copy that worked if you let it load for like 5 minutes! I don't remember where to get the correct ROM files to burn copies so I can't even attempt it anymore now that I have better media. :/ My co-worker and I trade Sega CD games all the time. It's nice working with someone cool enough to own a Sega CD too.
I know the laser may not be powerful enough for some writable CDs, and you might have to burn in image mode (not just files and folders).
You need to burn it in image mode, firstly because of the Mega CD header, and secondly because in the case of Megamix it doesn't even use the ISO9600 filesystem. The BIOS merely does raw things like reading sectors and such, reading the filesystem is up to the game, so you could even end up with a single CD containing both a PC and a MCD version of the game if you wanted, or a custom filesystem, or whatever.
I've got a Model 2 Genesis + Model 2 CD + 32X, and a CDX. I agree with some of the OP's selections, and not with others... everyone has their own tastes. 1 - Earthworm Jim: Special Edition 2 - Silpheed 3 - Battlecorps 4 - Wonder Dog 5 - Sonic CD 6 - Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure 7 - Ecco: The Tides of Time I'm not much for RPGs, FMV games, or Fighters, but I do like fighters more than the other two.
I've got a Model 1 Genesis/CD that, when I got it, wouldn't boot. I cleaned them off with alchol, but once in a full moon it won't boot right. Is that just a dirty contact issue or is the console going out? Also, my internal SRAM is fine. I heard they fail after a while, so I'm kinda relieved it still works.
My favorite Sega CD game that was officially released is Sonic CD. But now I think my favorite Sega CD game is definitely Megamix. Lol.
This, mostly. I don't know how to get the Japnese soundtrack to work on my American console, so I used the Sonic CD magazine beta, which is the full thing with Jap/Euro music.
I've been collecting some Sega CD games recently and I'm trying to figure out which Model Genesis I should get to play Sega CD games. I was considering the CDX if only for the fact that it only needs one power source, and the 32X can still run on it, although I've heard it has some pretty bad technical problems. Otherwise, I'd just settle for a Model 2 Genesis and a Model 2 Sega CD. The games I got for it so far? Well Sonic CD is coming in the mail, but I picked up Night Trap 32X, Double Switch, Wirehead, Ground Zero Texas, Adventures of Willy Beamish, and I somehow (Somehow!) still have a copy of Sewer Shark from my first Sega CD.
There are a few things to consider. If you have a Model 1 Genesis, of course the Model 1 SCD will look the best with it. That's the combo I have. One negative about the Model 1 SCD is that they do tend to fail. Most the time the problem being with it's motorized tray. Usually the gears. The Model 2 SCD is built better than the Model 1 due to it not using a motorized tray. But do beware of latter revisions of the Model 2. It's spindle is known to drop over time.
The Multimega has issues with the 32X to the point that even Sega couldn't decide whether or not they'd recommend running a 32X with it - as the CDX is essentially the same thing, I'd steer clear. A Model 2 MCD will be cheaper, anyway.
I figured a Model 1 was probably the worst bet only because of the motorized tray. Hopefully I can run across a Sega CD of some good quality.
From what I gather a 32X dominates a Multi Mega. To the point where it becomes a challenge to open the disc tray and put in a disc. I don't think there's any compatibility concerns, they just never put any focus towards the concept. Multi Megas were discontinued when the 32X came out so there was no reason to put the two in the same sentence. it's like, for example, the GameCube DK Bongos being able to "control" the occasional Wii game. Fully possible and does no harm to the system (though you'd likely not get anywhere), but not advertised as it was just a side-effect of supporting GameCube controllers.
My own setup is a Model 1 Genny/Model 2 CD/32X. Only legit games I have are Sonic CD and Road Avengers.
