I was going through my old boxes of nostalgia and memoirs and came across these old Sonic trading cards that came with bubblegum. The case looked like a game gear for the GG trading cards or a genesis / megadrive controller for the megadrive trading cards. Inside the case were a few square pieces of bubblegum and, if I remember correctly, two trading cards. I have more if anyone wants me to upload pictures of them. Just found these and figured it was a neat, rare piece of nostalgia that you kiddos might find interesting Anyone else remember these or have any? It would be cool if we could get all of them up here and maybe onto the wiki =)
When I was a kid, I had a binder with nearly the complete collection of these. I'm not sure if I still have it, though. We cleaned out the room I had them in back in 2003, and threw a lot of things away. But my dad also saves a lot of binders of baseball cards and trading cards. He may still have it. I'll have to check later today.
I've always been a bit of a pack rat, but I generally only keep stuff that I find to be rare or school work that I did well on. As such, I wound up keeping most of these, although some boxes of my stuff where the other cards may have been wound up getting ruined or lost over the years. I know I used to have some cards for Sonic 2 game gear, more s&k cards, more sonic 3 cards, and more sonic chaos cards. The other ones I know I have still are two more s&k cards, one other sonic chaos card, and a sonic 3 card. I had all of them just the other day, but I can't seem to find them right now. They're safe in my room, however, if I want to sit down and find them again ~.^
Part of me wishes I still had the bubblegum, although it would be very stale and gross by now. ...but alas, all I have are the cards. I'm not even sure I still have the case that the cards came in any more, although they may be in the boxes I have stored in my mother-in-law's basement (along with more of the trading cards for that matter). I'll be moving out of my current place soon, though, so I'll keep an eye out for them while going through my stuff
Ah, so that would explain the origin of these cards. I have one that is in poor condition (it was either a flea market find or storage locker pickup): It's probably relevant to note that these cards are in a separate collection from these cards (which I have all except for one ). These ones did not come with gum:
Just through most of my dad's card boxes and I couldn't find them. There's a chance they're in one of the boxes he has stuffed in a corner under some collectables, but I'm not hopeful.
I just noticed in the bottom right card that it's the original purple flower in Green Hill. When were those cards released? Before the game's release, I'm assuming? :v:
I have a bunch of Sonic branded ones that focus on a variety of Mega Drive titles, including Sonic, which I do intend to complete the scanning process of at some point (promise! =P)
The card in the very middle gained my attention; a sideways spikewall! And since these cards were produced after the game was released, so there's no excuse.
I got a few of these with the little pink Game Gear case too. It still smells like bubble gum inside. Pictures later tonight of the ones I have. I admit I've wanted to see the whole collection compiled and scanned online, even if the tips aren't the best and the artwork is uninspired.
You know you want to take a bite ...on second thought, no, you don't. Though to be fair, it still smells like bubblegum. Doesn't feel that way, but it certainly smells. I accidentally tasted some powdered remains taking that, as well...
Ultimately, that's what I was hoping to accomplish out of this. It always seemed to me that the wiki attempted to document everything Sonic and I figured having a full collection of scanned cards online would bring us one step closer to that impossible goal. I've found about six or seven cards now, all s&k, sonic 3, or sonic chaos. I had forgotten about the sonic spinball cards for the game gear. I'm fairly certain that the sonic 2 gg, sonic spinball, and triple trouble (I think I remember that being in there) cards I had have long since been lost or thrown out. I'd love to see what all the cards had to say, though. =) It makes me happy that there are others here that still have some of these cards :D
