This is why I made it optional in S1RL - there's no one-size-fits-all solution. Some people prefer knowing Sonic is in the centre, some people like to be able to better see what's ahead. I think the solution is always going to be "make it an option".
I always felt like although the classic sonic gameplay is fun and whatnot it never seems to keep me interested for too long. Like once I beat the game that's pretty much it for me and I have no motivation to do much extra stuff unless I'm just extremely bored.
