I wanted to go after the emeralds in S&K today and I noticed that something just seems off whenever I'm playing the special stages. I know I'm making the right direction changes to avoid the red spheres but it just seems like there's a delay and I end up not completing the stage. I have the Xbox Live version, I just remenber I could play the stages alot better on the Genesis, PS2 Mega Collection, and even on a emulator on PC but I've even considered replacing the controller so I could get my enjoyment of the game back, if that's what it took. Does anyone else have this problem besides me?

I don't know if its so much lag for me but I hate the D-pad on the 360. I can collect the emeralds no problem on the genesis or wii but yea, its a lot harder for xbox.

Not your controller's fault. All the emulated Sonic games on Xbox Live (1/2/3/Knuckles) have input lag.

I knew that had to be the problem. >.> I knew I pressed the correct buttons at the right time, and I noticed the damn lag. >.< So yeah, I have the same problem. Most people probably do. :\

At least I don't have to buy a new controller now.....that's a shame at least I can cheat and save before I go into the special stage ring so I can have multiple attempts, but it takes the fun out of the special stages cause they are by far my favorites from the series. I can remenber me and my friend playing blue spheres on the genesis wondering if we got some sort of bonus for beating all the stages. Though with the magic of the internet that was quickly revealed that it was not the case. I'd love to see a re-release of the Sonic games suffering from this lag though, I can say that I enjoyed the updated Sonic CD, I'm currently trying to collect the achievements and gathering the time stones is actually alot more enjoyable than I remenber. Though I am not sure if the physics were adjusted or anything but the little addons the game made it alot more enjoyable experience than the S 1-3k releases.

  6. I always thought it was a TV lag thing, and that I'm just used to the timings being tight, almost like the game beatmania IIDX, and how it's very hard to play on an HDTV due to inconsistancies with lag.

The fact that there's some pretty serious input lag makes me wonder how someone pulled the world record speedrun of EHZ1 on the Xbox version.

The fact that he did it on Xbox instead of Genesis should disqualify him anyway. :colbert:

You can always, y'know, just compensate for the lag in the special stages. They don't exactly move lightning speed.

Doesn't it speed up after each loop of the special stage song or something of that effect? That would get tricky fast. Especially since you're used to instant input response of the Genesis and an old tube.

    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
If it helps, the direction press is 'buffered' well before you get to the end of a square in the special stages. There's more than enough time to compensate, even at the fastest speed, if you think ahead. I cleared them all at my sister's place with her laggy old plasma TV because she wanted some achievement that needed it.

I bought Sonic 1 on XBLA on release and noticed the lag almost instantly, I checked the net at the time and although I saw a few other complaints, many times it wouldn be countered by people who'd say "It looks fine to me". So I so I did two tests to prove I wasn't crazy:

Running Sonic via Kega on my PC plugged into my HDTV to see if that would lag.
Running my 360 through my PC monitor to see if it it wouldn't lag.

(As I already use a VGA cable on the 360 to connect to my HDTV nothing was changed aside from the monitor)

The result: Kega worked fine on both screens, the 360 version lags regardless, and Digital Eclipse can't emulate the Mega Drive for love nor money (which is confirmed with their emulated port of Street of Rage 2, which not only has similar input lag, but the YM2612 emulation is really off in parts).

The thing that annoys me the most is it's not like DE haven't employed members of the emulation community in the past to help with certain games - I distinctly remember Steve Snake's name in the credits of one of the arcade ports, but they couldn't consult him to help with accurate MD emulation? Utter madness.
