...kinda looks like Metal Sonic's leg....but if he didn't have the metal halfpipe part to cover the lower half of said leg, and if he had a blue paintjob for his shoes?
I think it is his leg, but the thigh part going to his kneecap, maybe even his arm to elbow. Compare it to something like this.

Will they go for a Sonic 4 remix type thing, just stick to the original battle, or come up with something completely different? We've already seen the GHZ miniboss which has a nice take on the wrecking ball boss, but we haven't seen Robotnik yet.
I think it would be really neat if the mini-bosses were in reference to the original bosses for the classic levels (But not carbon copies), while still allowing new and unique bosses for the Eggman fight.
