I just feel like the Chao garden should be it's own thing as like a mobile game. It doesn't make sense for Sonic and if they make it mandatory in any way it's annoying for those who don't want to raise the little shits.

I don't know why they're so opposed to online multiplayer though. That's a feature they've only ever put in like the B games on the DS/3DS.

True dat. I had more fun doing online 2P racing in Mushroom Hill than I would like to admit. That was my hometown baby!

The could have been making money off of something called “ Chao Adventure” this whole time in the mobile market.

I adore Chao. Give me mechanics at least on par with SA2B and I'll pour dozens of hours into it. But keep it out of the Sonic titles proper so those who don't enjoy it don't have to interface with it.

This. At this point I see zero reason to have it in a main game.

How would you collect rings/animals without pay2win? Perhaps it can be attached to Sonic Runners/Dash somehow?

Simple - include mini-games where you can earn rings. No pay2win needed.

Make your Chao's stats affect the games in some way, so the more effort you put into raising your Chao the more rings you can potentionally get in each go - this would also provide extra motivation to put effort into levelling up your Chao's stats. Would also be fun if the games could be played in a multiplayer mode with friends who also have the Chao Adventure App.

Your suggestion of being able to migrate over rings from existing mobile games would be a cool feature, too.

That said, Pay2win would undoubtedly be included - it WOULD be a mobile game after all, that's how they work now.

I mean this isn't too far off from how SA2 did it. Obviously instead of real money it was rings but it was use rings to buy better eggs or use rings to buy better fruit. And outside of that it was grind fucking forever.

The fact that they basically invented the 1st modern mobile game in existence without realizing it and have failed to capitalize on it ever is astonishing. They already have an install base ready to go, people eat stupid things like this up, it'd shut up people who keep moaning about Sonic Adventure 3 (I bet 80% of them don't want Sonic Adventure 3 really they just want Chao back), and the model is already set. You could race the little shits online, have them fight in chao karate, make some simple mini games like in the mini chao gardens in the Advance series, you could use your phone to track your steps and have it walk a chao like a modern day Chao Adventure, you could use moon dollars to buy them outfits or whatever avatar style and do stuff to customize them, Chao Kindergarten could be used in someway most likely. It's literally all there! They just have to put the pieces together into one package and monetize it. It's like Sega doesn't want money.

But no. Make a tapping game about Crazy Taxi instead. Good.

Chao Gardens were the most fun minigames I've ever played in a Sonic title, so yeah. Maybe this time they could add in some sort of equivalent to the Chao Adventure games without the terrible VMU battery life.

Honestly, the Action Stages in Adventure 2 were basically mini-games to me. Both perfect to grind, and perfect for parties with friends.

I'd love to see a Boost game add an Adventure 2 tier (or better) Chao World. Would be a much better form of "padding" than Fisher Price God of War or Dollar Store Classic Sonic. And it would keep me coming back to the Boost stages for a much longer period of time. It would give them more purpose, knowing that my Rings would be going to something tangible, knowing that there are Small Animals to collect (which would be much more fulfilling collectibles than Red Rings). Would be cool if you could have a Chao tag along with you in the levels, and depending on their ability type and alignment, they'd give you different abilities, possibly facilitating the acquisition of even more Rings or better/hidden/secret Animals, or something. And then they could add multiplayer as well, and finally make the perfect Sonic racing game.

That would be immensely preferable to Pay2Win mobage for me. Not that I wouldn't also indulge in the mobage, but I wouldn't want a glorious Chao Garden revival to be secluded to that territory. An actual Sonic game complements it too well.

Maybe if the chao actually did something for you in game and weren't tied to like emblems that'd be ok with me (they could be like equitable perks ala generations). But how, how do chao complement the adventure games in any way? You go from one game mode that's completely different, grind to get stuff, and then you raise pets.

I'm sorry what? But honestly I might like chao a little more if it didn't take so long. It's so slow to raise them, but if you want to 100% SA2 then you better strap in there good sir, it's going to be a 30+ hour ride raising the things and racing them (and not even just one, you need at least 2 as you need to unlock the hero/dark races and if your main chao isn't neutral you are in for a rude awakening).

Maybe this is why I like the boost games. They're quick. The levels don't last more than 5 minutes. You can go back and perfect your route and find reliability that way (the classics have that too and do it better but we're talking 3d now). It's also why I don't like heroes with its 10 minute levels with enemy gates everywhere.

I have a vague recollection of someone at Sonic Team saying that part of the reasoning behind the Chao Garden was to give younger/less experienced players something extra to do, if they're having difficulty with the main game. The idea was that they would be rewarded for re-playing the earlier/easier stages, and have something to work towards, and that by re-playing the easier stages they'd eventually be good enough at the game to tackle the harder stages.

I think it's a neat idea, and I like how it incentivises defeating enemies, rather than running past them. But if they bring it back, they should remove the 10-animal limit. Have a "bank" system so you can save up animals and Chaos Drives and use them whenever you please, rather than being forced to go to the Chao Garden after each stage to get the most out of it.

This is a good idea too. A bit like the companions in Sonic Runners. So, a Fly type Chao could give you a free "save" from a bottomless pit.

Back then I had no idea what a Chao is. In SA2 you collect the key, get to the lobby and after a while you find a baby Chao. As a non-completionist you could be all like 'No rings? No loops? I'm outta here!' and leave (for me it was more like 'Whaaat, I can pet THIS?'). Do they even have magical powers? Or maybe they could manipulate the stages?

Chaos are more like actual characters in the world of Sonic (unlike Wisps), just make them a little more important again.

Since the Chao resources are found in the Sonic game, the Chao game provides further replay value to the Sonic game. Playing one facilitates playing the other. This would indeed be strengthened by allowing the player to bring the Chao into the Sonic game, and allowing you to access more gameplay options; were the Chao to come back, in a Sonic game, then this feels like a natural improvement to make. Likewise, if they were brought back, they'd also greatly need to increase the pace at which they aged; or perhaps allow you to set and adjust the flow of time inside of each specific Chao Garden?

My main point though is that I'd prefer to play a Sonic game to grind for Chao resources than some boring touch screen mobage shit. The former would make the grind much more entertaining. Thinking back to grinding for an Emerald Egg in Sonic Advance 1, I replayed the living shit out of the first stage, and my runs became increasingly efficient. The desire for more things in the Chao game actively facilitated and incentivized my increased mastery of the Sonic game.

A friend shared this with me on Facebook yesterday. I've seen various memes using the same setup. From which anime does this originate?
