Discussion in 'General Sonic Discussion' started by crystallize, Feb 15, 2017.

  1. Apparently it's not on the web. Can somebody scan it may be?

Game Informer is one of the few publications to make a fuss about archived copies, which deters the likes of Retromags from scanning issues. I forget if there are official sources for digitised versions of Game Informer scans.

If and when that issue arrives, we'll have a mirror on Retro CDN.

  4. Come on guys, this is a review that wasn't on the web till now and it says that SA2 is kiddy and not hardcore enough. Say something.
I have to scan it, probably.

Scan it? This is the Game Informer review in question - correct? It's scanned (by you presumably?) here.

As for commenting, honestly think the review is honest and fair. And I poured 100 hours in to SA2. We've discussed the topic to death over the years (which may be the likely reason you're not seeing too many replies) but the general consensus is that it was a rushed, budget-strained let-down of a successor to SA1 hampered by conflicting play-styles with conversely - fucking amazing Sonic/Shadow stages that were the best Sonic Team magic and gameplay the series had ever seen and an awesome Chao Garden/Chao-raising mechanic that together redeemed the game to decent and thus made it fondly remembered.

It has been a divisive for years. It has super fans that love it whilst others feel it signalled the downturn of Sonic. So a 7ish review for the game at the time of release seems about right to me given that's the modern consensus now. I adored SA2 when it came out but I'm not oblivious to its glaring flaws. The review also notes something important - that Sonic Team were limited because of the impending doom of the Dreamcast and I think that holds true. Cool of you however to scan it if the linked scan was indeed you. I'm sure the staff would love to add it to the wiki and will do so in due course.

Yup. Add the killer soundtrack, which gets even people who don't want to replay or even care for SA2 still listening to it and you've pretty much nailed it right there IMO.

Thanks man. :) Really awesome and pleasing of you to say. I tried to sum up the consensus as best as I could and seems like I succeeded. Also agreed on the killer soundtrack. I still remember hearing "Live and Learn" for the first time on the game's title screen (hadn't heard it before that) and thought it was the best Sonic jam I had ever heard - and I bet most of the fanbase similarly remembers so.
