The Sonic Merchandise Topic

Discussion in 'General Sonic Discussion' started by Retro_Stew, Jul 11, 2011.

  1. I just posted this in the forum - but I have a ton of original mid 90s line art from SEGA - that was probably used of stuff like mugs, or in coloring books, etc...

Take a peek at some of it here:
    https://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=35057

If you recognize anything it was used on, please let me know!!!

A plush classic Eggman could be great.

Classic Knuckles 1991. So Classic he didn't even exist.

Nice to see that Tomy's license is now extending beyond just Boom. And no surprise that we're seeing yet more Classic stuff under the 25th Anniversary banner.

    Hey, there's one missing :

Also, how many classic plush has been made (not counting the japanese and american ones between 1991 and 1998) ? They seems to be numerous.

And there was a Eggman Plush recently made by GE/PMS (and an Amy one too).

I can't for the life of me remember where I got this from (it was earlier this year, and I was probably drunk). It's a nice fit, and just warm enough. I'll no doubt bring it out next year too.

I'm a poster collector I mainly collect the Japanese stuff. I might start diving into the American Sonic Displays and stuff like that. In any case here's what I've gotten so far.

Posted by bcrobber, here's the album he posted: http://imgur.com/gallery/yb94j

Most of the poses are modified versions of official art, but I have not seen that profile of Sonic.

I kicked off a video series which looks back at various Sonic food promotions, first episode is the 1994/1995 Sonic 3 Happy Meal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jlegXsszkA

Will be posting them monthly at both SEGAbits and Sonic Retro on the SEGAbits YouTube account.

I didn't like that proposed statue. The initial version with classic playing the Dreamcast made no sense. The revised one with the Genesis/MD looked better, but I still found the scene to be weird. You mainly saw Sonic's back, and he was blocking the TV screen. The TV itself was on the ground with the console so it was a weird configuration for how Sonic was playing. I did really like the base.

The plan was for the regular version of the statue to come with the Megadrive and a Sonic 1 screen on the TV. The Exclusive version would include a swap-out Dreamcast and another TV with SA1 on it. So either you would only have the Megadrive with S1, or you'd have that with a Dreamcast and SA1 in addition to that. But I do agree that the scene was weird. Sonic's pose was odd to have him turning around like that. At no angle could you clearly see both his face and the TV. Personally I wasn't hugely keen on the base either. Too many colours going on (the brown/orange inside the ring really didn't look good for colour balance). Plus being so large it sort of commanded your attention. What was the focus of the statue - Sonic, the TV/console set up or the base itself? Too much. I really like it in concept, but don't think it came together. All the elements should be retooled and recycled into future pieces. Such a shame that F4F stopped doing Sonic vinyls and PVCs a long time ago.

My main hang-up was...can you put a controller into the Dreamcast's 4th port and have it act as controller 1 if it's the only one plugged in? :psyduck:

I actually had to test this, because you can on the Xbox (I believe it was mandated that all published games must work with the controller plugged into any port, and must not grab any controller until the player has pressed a button on the controller they're using; this was to allow for things like peripherals without constant controller-switching).

The Dreamcast BIOS responds to all controller ports, but individual games tend to require the controller be plugged into Port A. However, some games work with a single controller in other ports; Chu Chu Rocket is one of them.

The revised statue should have Boom Sonic playing Sonic Dash 2 on an iPhone.

  19. The Dreamcast is representative of when Sega died. A little dark but but I think it's a statue of two ghosts: classic Sonic and classic Sega.
