I wouldn't trust Iizuka with canon beyond what is actually put into the games. I'll guarantee you he'll say something to contradict this later. Regardless, if it were a single game, I agree we probably wouldn't have Hyper Sonic nor the Super Emeralds. Though Mania suggests they're canonical as far as it's concerned (though gone now, if the Word of God is to be believed about the ones we see being stone replicas).
But the whole point of splitting it in 2 was so they wouldn't have to butcher it like Sonic 2. Not to say Sonic 2 was bad, just commenting on how much was cut.
While we are on this tangent, I'd like to say I've always found Hyper Sonic to be annoying and gimmicky. Not in playability, but the method behind it in 3+K. I love the way Hyper plays. So, you get all the Chaos Emeralds and can be Super Sonic. For a little while. Just a little while. Then, Mushroom Valley happens (yes, we have enough 'Hills', so I use 'Valley' because I can). Then blindless elucidation: they get taken from you again again to apparently charge up the Super Emeralds. Then, those have to be obtained and you're reggie Sonic all the way till that happens. Like, giveth and taketh away. The fuck?! The actual fuck?! Should have been one super form the whole time, with Hyper Sonic moves. Just zap into the H?i?d?d?e?n? P?a?l?a?c?e? Lava Reef act 4 Super Emerald chamber the next big ring after obtaining all Chaos Emeralds and fly into the Supers. Makes way more sense than the tease it became. /rant
And you can get all the Chaos Emeralds before Marble Garden, so you can spend almost half of the game with Super Sonic. Even failing that, Marble Garden gives big rings out like candy (there are over a dozen in the zone, if I recall).
Whoops! Totally my fault. I'm hoping for further releases soon, especially that take on Angel Island Act 2, since we never got an official Mania version.

Hyper Sonic is the ultimate reward for getting all the Chaos and Super Emeralds (and the earlier you find the Giant Rings, the sooner you get to play him) But yes, we're definitely very off topic :p

I think Pengi previously posted the Christmas one. Knuckles and Amy forming their own team is cute (Although isn't classic Knuckles supposed to be shy of girls?). The Xmas one was very well done. The valentine's story feels a bit muddled, but it's still cute and I appreciate the effort. Seeing these make me yearn for some new Mania game news, but I guess as development on Plus on wrapped up in July of last year, we're probably at least good years off from them announcing anything. These clips also make me yearn for playable Amy, so it's too bad they didn't have the budget to make her part of the Plus update.

I wouldn't be too sure that the animated series is going to be a Mania Adventures S2. The photo is one of multiple, and most of them are action figures of the cast with the current designs (which include Shadow). Surprisingly enough (IMO), there are also some smaller toys that use sprites from the Advance games. You can currently see the original post by ToyShiz (and all of the photos) at this instagram link.
I was about to say that there might be a chance it might be something else with different people involved buuuut man I hope that's not the case. I think Jasmine along with Tyson and the rest of the crew make a great team so losing them would be a shame. I'll take Sonic Mania Adventures season 2 on YouTube with them than something else with a bigger budget on Cartoon Network that shows a new episode every 8 months at 4 a.m.
Guessing either Mania Adventures Season 2 and the same again straight to YouTube given Season 1 was so popular and such a success - or failing that longer form episodes that still carry the Mania brand but are given are larger budget and greater scope - but with Tyson and co. on animation duties once again for either potential project. I'd be pleased with either in all honesty but whatever is happening it's almost definitely an announcement planned for SXSW. Also if Mania Adventures is getting renewed in some form that bodes extremely well for more Mania in video game form too. SXSW can't come soon enough.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sonic Mania Adventures gets expanded into an 11-minute Cartoon Network show. But I'm a little nervous that voice acting could take away some of the magic. It could still be great, but much like Æon Flux, it'd be a different experience.
It annoys me when they start talking a lot in the games but I certainly don't think that speaking in a cartoon is a bad thing.
Telling the story without dialogue had some magic to it though, I don't feel like it would be quite the same if it was voice acted. I think it could still be good, but it would have a bit of a different feel to it.
