Also, Dr. Robeggmannik. :v: Interesting review, and he brings up some valid points. I have personally never played Secret Rings, but this makes me more interested in trying it.

Lastly, I don't know if a general protection fault appearing on a Sonic game would be absolutely annoying, freaking hilarious, or amazingly awesome.

 

I agree with most of what he said, saved what he said about Unleashed for the 360. It's much better then the Wii version, which is ok IMO (ruined by wereSonic and overall strange feel). But ya the rest of it I'll go with. I'm not very happy with 3D Sonic.

 

I love how he pointed out the cardinal sin in UnWiished's gameplay I.e. it's an automated cutscene 2/3rds of the time, and then proceeded to call 360 Unleashed a wreck because OHNOES YOU HAVE TO DO SHIT.

I call shenanigans on this one, anyone who says Black Knight gameplay is slow and broken needs to take a fucking look at the HOMING SWORD SLASH COMBO. Shit is faster than a normal Homing attack.

 

Another review bashing the superior 360 version. I don't understand what people have against it, honestly, and I still find it completely insane how anyone can say the Wii version is a much better game. It's horribly broken with poor level structure and frustrating controls.

And once again, Secret Rings being hailed as a good game. I personally found it as a very broken mess with unresponsive controls. I just did not have any fun playing it, and I will never touch or think about playing Black Knight ever.

 

The idea of "better" or "worse" is based solely on one's opinion. The controls aren't really that frustrating to me when using a GameCube-Controller, for example. What's annoying me however is the lack of camera-control.
His complaint about the camera, by the way, was valid, but the clip that was played during it was kinda... stupidly unfitting, since that was him just fucking the hell up, not the camera's fault.

Though in general, he's largely exaggerating there.

 

I read "Sonic threesome" and was expecting a totally different topic of discussion. I am disappoint.

 

Before I entered this topic some days ago, I was scared to enter it...period.

 

I find his Secret Rings review right, havn't played Wiileashed yet, reviewed the PS3 Unleashed which from what I played had some framerate problems compared to 360's only in Adabat, and need to play black knight.

 

Holy hell did the PS3 version have some framerate issues. At some points it's just ridiculous that they let it pass.

Otherwise the only review I felt was fair was the secret rings review. Too be honest though isn't going over reviews like this over and over again pointless. People have different views of the games. For example I know almost everyone here hates Sonic 06. I played all the way through it and enjoyed myself. Sure it would have been better with shorter load times, and a couple annoying bugs, but overall I enjoyed myself.

I guarantee though if I were a professional reviewer and put in a review how awesome I thought Sonic 06 was people would tear me to shreds because they have a different opinion.

 

I can't speak for Secret Rings or Black Knight, but his Sonic Unleashed PS3 review sounded just like everybody else's - basically, "I hate Sonic the Hedgehog now so I'm going to hate this game without really trying to like it."

In some ways I wonder if maybe I've crossed over to the point where I'm such a Sonic fan that I like a bad game. I've always tried to maintain a realistic outcome towards the Sonic franchise because I don't want to end up one of those people who defends terrible games just because my favorite character is on the box.

But, it's like, yeah, the controls are kind of slippery in Sonic Unleashed. But compared to Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic 2006, they are a hell of a lot more manageable. I literally cannot count the number of times I'd die or have to compensate for shit like Knuckles slipping off a platform in Sonic Heroes, Shadow's homing attack misfiring, or Sonic's ridiculously oversensitive steering in Sonic 2006. Sonic Unleashed has little to none of that.

It just really depresses me that there are groups of people out there who will go on about how Sonic Rush is this great game and then turn around and badmouth Sonic Unleashed for making identical game design choices (running too fast to react to obstacles, things like that).

Sonic Unleashed isn't perfect, but dammit, it doesn't deserve half the shit it's got.

 

I don't think it's because you like bad games. As far as it goes for me, I hate Black Knight, I'm not a huge fan of Secret Rings, and everything after Heroes is just bad, except for Unleashed. And we aren't the only ones who thought this game was good. It got good reviews in Japan (PS360 version). It's not a perfect game. I can see that. It has slowdowns, the game is based off one of the stupidest premises I've ever seen, it's not classic Sonic. But I was shocked at how well the managed to make what was one of the worst ideas ever (werehog) into something that was actually pretty fun. And I found Sonic's levels to be a blast for the most part.

Until people start to review each Sonic game as if it was it's own thing though, we'll continue to see the same shit: idiots making contradictory statements about the series (Rush is like Classic Sonic, You go too fast in Unleashed, why can't the game be awesome like Sonic Rush?) and giving bad reviews to Sonic games because as soon as they put the disc in the tray they don't even try to like it. They dismiss each game immediately and don't even try to have fun. Rather they try to find problems. In fact, people go so far as to now a days try to dissect pre release content like trailers, demos, whatever so they can declare that the game sucks before it's even released.

One solution would be to just make a new classic like Sonic game again (To satisfy people and also shut them up) and then take a massive break with the series, like about 3 or 4 years without seeing Sonic anywhere. But they can't just take a break, they have to take a break after a high note so people will forget the trash (even if it wasn't) existed, and they'll want more of what they had the last time around.
