Judging by responses... JohnnyUK just ported Gens/GS to... a cash register?

Hahahaha no, it's not a proprietary till. It's our family business so we got to decide what tills to put it in. We decided to build them ourselves and write our own till software in phpGTK running on Ubuntu 9.10. I'm just thanking gerbil for maintaining gens for linux. Can't for the life of me get megaCD to work, though. Sonic CD on the till? Do want. :P

edit: Also, Plants vs. Zombies under wine on a touch screen is just awesome.

I'm actually surprised there's not an Xbox 360 controller next to the barcode scanner and pin entry device on the left :P

Epic win in a physical form I'd say.

This reminds me of when I worked at a garden center and I kept Jnes with a couple roms on a floppy drive for nights when I was the only person working. Never got caught in 2 years. =P

You are awesome. Wish Debenhams tills had insertable media :(

They run on Win2000, I know that, but I know if I cock them up, hell will be paid.

You seem to be forgetting the 360's horrible D-Pad.

They have wide screen tills now? It doesn't look like it's a stretch. AWESOME!

I figured someone would mention that - the only reason I specifically said a 360 pad is cause I know Johnny uses one for his PC. I really do wish they made that d-pad better =/

Ya, I wish that DPad was better too. We were actually talking about bringing one in this morning, actually. Anyone any idea how well they work on Ubuntu? I imagine you have to do some voodoo to get it to play nice. Hell, you have to do some voodoo to get fucking microsoft MICE to work sensibly.

As for the widescreen thing? Yeah, you can thank moores law for that. Last year we got some shitty 1280x1024 15" touch screens for £450. This year we built new ones and these 23" Acer widescreen multitouch displays are the only ones we could get at scan. And they only cost £230.

Also, Overlord! Damn, you're still here? Been too long, I agree. Might spend a bit more time on here, I left around the time sonic cult started crumbling and couldn't really be arsed with it anymore but this place seems pretty on the ball these days.

EDIT: Hm, didn't notice gerbil had his own section in the forum. Could someone do me a favour and move it over?

I am sort of surprised that you didn't illustrate the epic till's capabilities with Project Shadow. :colbert:
