    Trying to be useful somehow.
There was a video showing that 'ya can play it' most of hacks. Few ones compared to the amount of hacks available. They come fro mthe most experienced hackers if that means something.

I remember when judging last year's entries, that there were a few hardware-incompatible games. I don't think they were the majority, however.

I realise this years competition isn't till the end of the year but I'm always doing sega and sonic related streams. If anyone with known compatible hardware roms fancy some air time on YouTube then please let me know.. Honestly it would be a privilege!

I can personally guarantee that all of the SADX and SA2 mods run on real PC hardware. :eng101:

Anyone is welcome to stream during the contest, even those not included in the Media Panel.

Speaking of the Panel, there will be an announcement coming very shortly concerning that.

As part of the 2016 Evaluation Form we asked people for suggestions for the following:
    • People that could be considered for the 2017 Media Panel.
    • Websites that could be approached for promoting the Hacking Contest.

Rather than close off the suggestions from them, we're opening the suggestion box back up again. If you have anything you would like to recommend, please do so. If you have already suggested them in the 2016 Evaluation Form, we've already got them and are looking into them with announcements to follow over the next few months regarding who we are lining up this year's Media Panel with.

If you didn't get a chance to fill out the Evaluation Form, this is your shot at suggesting things. If you filled out the form last year but have new suggestions, feel free to put them in this time. After all, we have overlooked many talented people in the past simply for not knowing about them! This is an event for the community by the community, and we really do mean that.

We will take a look at all suggestions and those that are found suitable will be contacted however we cannot guarantee that all contacted people will be available to take part, so don't be disappointed if they don't make the final list. We can't force people to take part, if they have something else going on or they aren't responding to our invitation, then they won't be around this year.

You may notice that we are asking whether or not your suggestions that you give are English-language users. We are asking this as we are trying to broaden our availability to as many people as possible by having Hacking Contest coverage in as many languages as possible, as not everyone speaks that one language. After all, there are hacking communities out there that use Russian and other languages that aren't in English. We should be welcoming them to the event rather than leaving them in the dark.

You are welcome to let your suggestions be known that we are looking, but please don't harass them over and over with YouTube comments, tweets etc demanding they should be a part of the contest, otherwise they'll definitely be doing something else during that week! At the end of the day, we will get who we can get, and we will make a great event out of it!

I guess I'll enter considering I think I know one of the judges. Entering a competition older than myself feels weird.

    Hey folks.

Given the increasing amount of 3D entries each year and the inclusion of even more trophies related to 3D modifications, I've been asked to participate as a judge this year. I've previously submitted entries on both the SHC 2012 and 2013, and the first instance was a great motivation for our team to get reorganized and use the contest dates as our deadlines to submit something polished, even if it was a small demo. I can attest to how useful this event was for us and I'd definitely recommend it for anyone looking for feedback on their projects, no matter how small they might start out at first.

I look forward to seeing your entries!

So, Dario, what do you know about SADX modding?

I'm not very familiar with the technical details on how the mods work on SADX and SA2* just yet but I'm willing to investigate the tools used and limitations if needed depending on the submissions. I've dabbled however in playing around with the available mods already and had a fairly easy time doing so (mostly because the system in place was pretty familiar :P). If you feel the need to provide any more detailed explanations along with the submission, it should obviously help.

*: It seems fairly more advanced than the heavy file reverse-engineering I'm used to considering the amount of code injection I saw.

    Hey guys.

Due to the 3D content for modding cropping up a lot more now recently. I've been ask to participate as a judge this year. I've worked along with Dario before in SHC 2012 and 2013. So being a part of this is really exciting. And I look forward to seeing the entries this year. And to get myself familiarized with other 3D modding setups besides Generations. Been wanting to look into SADX, just never had a chance to.

Hey everyone! Due to lack of personnel that is significantly superior to me, you are all stuck with me now. But I've still been asked to formally announce that I've been inducted into the holy gang of SHC judges, so I'm gonna do just that. You can thank the big guys behind the judging desk later for that.

Jokes aside, with the increased quality control that is gonna be implemented this year, I've been looking forward to becoming a judge this year more than in the previous years. Fresh hacks that brought lots of joy to everyone have been there even in shit show that was 2016's contest. It's just with the thick layer of poop covering the whole event that they didn't really get to shine. I'm proud to be part of something great this year.

Thanks for giving me a chance! I won't disappoint.

    I think.

While I give the best of luck to Selbi, I also should inform of my intent to leave judging for this year.

Recently I have been pursuing other interests and if I'm 100% honest, I have zero interest in the hacking scene anymore. I have been wanting to further chase my music endeavours as well as helping out what is a fast growing sim racing community. I will always have massive thanks to this scene for allowing me to start building my talents, and I will be forever grateful for having the chance to help out with the contest these last few years, to the point of judging last year. But I don't think it'd be fair, nor appropriate, to stick around to something I just don't have the interest in any further, nor would it be fair on SHC to divide my attention from it on my hobbies and said community.

I've said to Spanner privately that I'm still open to helping out in case of emergency, but I hope the person who inevitably takes my place realises the task ahead isn't going to be as easy as playing some games and giving a score to it. It sure was an eye opener to me last year.

I know some people might feel rather concerned that four judges have left this year, and I can understand those concerns. I thank amphobius, LazloPsylus, Shannon and StephenUK for their time being involved with the Hacking Contest no matter how long they were judging for.

Judging is a very difficult process and it is also time consuming too, and as well as judging there are other responsibilities such as being involved in planning various parts of the contest. A few judges left because they didn't feel they had enough time nowadays to take part fully in the process, some left for personal reasons and some left because they lost interest in the hacking side of this community, or even the Sonic community overall for various reasons.

As stated in the first post of this thread, the judging list is not final and additional judges may be recruited to replace former judges who have left the contest due to retiring or other reasons. We have recruited five new judges this year, some to replace those who left; others to help expand the judging team. We've worked very hard this year on recruiting a few people who have been involved with 3D modifications. We may have a sixth new judge soon, or we may leave the slot vacant.

We have a lot of good things in the works behind the scenes and we're nearly ready to announce a few of them. The website is still in the works, Cinossu is working very hard on a brand new site that'll do the job for many years to come and will have many new features. SuperEgg has been going around contacting a good load of people to take part in the Media Panel using the suggestions people have given us, and we've already got some new recruits lined up that you should be very familiar with – announcements will happen over the next few months regarding who will be there for the Contest Week.

We've also got a few things this year that if we're able to pull them off, you're going to really like what we've got arranged.

In the meantime, we've still got a few months to go until the deadlines so continue to work hard on your entries if you plan on submitting to either the Hacking Contest or the Hack Expo – don't forget to ensure your entries meet the Quality Control Criteria otherwise they won't be approved for submission.

Also, we have re-opened the Discord Server, as we had to kill the link previously because of problems that have now been completely resolved. It's the same place as last year, so if you left thinking that the server was only there for last year's contest, you can come back. If you haven't been in the server before, feel free to join, we don't bite. We also have an IRC Channel which relays from the main Discord channel available at irc.badnik.zone #SHContest.

In addition, the Sonic Hacking Contest now has a Twitch channel which will be used for various things including rehosting Contest Week streams from the Media Panel if they give consent for that.
