Thats been a mis-translation thats been floating about. Iizuka basically said that if Episode 2 doesn't sell well enough they will drop it. don't see why it shouldn't.

  3. If they are planning an Episode III, then I'm guessing Sonic's going to return to Angel Island and Knuckles is going to be reintroduced in Episode III. Afterall, Episode I completely ignored Sonic 3 and Knuckles in terms of level theme so it would be fitting to have a zone return from there. Not saying I'm happy about it though, I'd rather have completely new level themes instead of constant rehashes.

Quartz Quadrant or Stardust Speedway is the only way to go.

Also, if we're going to race Metal Sonic he'd better be harder than he was in Generations.

Since the last level is called Sky Fortress I'm gonna go ahead and assume it's a Wing Fortress clone. Of course, if we're going by the "story" I would imagine Death Egg Zone would be more appropriate (and welcome, if you ask me)

Yeah! If they do Quartz Quadrant, they can copy-paste those trees all over again! :v:
    Jk.

But, personally, I'd like to see Collision Chaos, Quartz Quadrant, or Stardust Speedway.

...Wacky Workbench would be neat too... but not as cool as those other three.

I don't know if anyone has heard of this or not, but Ken Balough had confirmed that Tails would not actually be playable alone, like in Sonic 2/3. You're actually FORCED to use the co-op feature.

Yeah, that was confirmed on the SEGA forums about a week or so ago. Unfortunate really.

Ken said that the level will only be from the original trilogy so no Sonic CD level is going to make an appearance.

Watch as they do something stupid like have Angel Island be a part of Little Planet that broke off in/during the events of Sonic 4: Episode II. Which will be the "Throw-back" level.

well since there is no plans for a Episode 3, a link in CD and Sonic 4 stories is unlikely.

Because the biggest problem in the Ep 2 is a not playable Tails, so does anyone imagine a non playable Knuckles in the Ep 3?

I'm so angry that they're treating other characters like a small tag-along, we haven't been able to play as Knuckles or Tails for 6 years in a mainstream game, and now we get this?

For me, the biggest problem is level design, but to each their own. I would like to play as Tails, but I moreso hope for gameplay that is enjoyable.

I should clarify that I don't enjoy them in excess. Sky Sanctuary Act 1 and 2 in Generations did bottomless pits quite well, for example.

  16. Am I the only person who's not too offended by the lack of stand-alone playable Tails? In theory the current set-up could lead to some pretty unique and deeper gameplay, combining Sonic's abilities with Tails' abilities. Like, say, using Tails to fly up somewhere then having Sonic jump off and homing dash in order to reach a specific place. Or something along those lines.

Not that I forsee this game being too good or clever enough with the level design to reward such techniques.

Personally, it's more the automated things and lack of enough paths that might get to me. A sort of choice about how one does the level is foremost with me. Tails was always just sort of "easy mode" when he was playable.

While I'm not bothered about them forcing co-op (if anything, it's a very nice twist), I'm bothed by Sonic having to be the leader. Surely they could have easily just swapped the aerial combo move to the homing attack when Tails is the leader? And reduced the number HA areas while they were at it. Instant win.

I agree, but I was pretty disappointed since I was excited to pay Tails solo. :( I think they're being lazy with that, why not swap between Sonic and Tails?

They did them alright, for a level that's set in the sky. And hey, I'll be a sport and meet you half way here: When it's relevant to the stage design and not just 'lol sanic can't swim' or 'black void for the sake of it' I can accept pits a hell of a lot easier.

So I've been watching the gameplay videos again and I gotta say I'm not really impressed. It looks like the stages will rely heavily on the team co op gimmick and the level design looks like your standard dull DIMPS flair with very little multiple routes and of course the aforementioned pits everywhere. (Christ did you see that one part in the recent playthrough where there were like six pit warning signs grouped together? Haha oh wow) The snowboarding sections look pretty boring and it's just 'watch Sonic do shit for five seconds' which I never approve of at all in any Sonic game. Also I was hoping that the polar bear badnik would turn out to be like a mini boss but no just a bigger regular enemy. Meh. He looks kinda cool I guess though and at least he doesn't take ten hits to kill like some enemies in Sonic Heroes..

So yeah, overall it looks pretty lame so far. I'm hoping I'm proven wrong in the coming months but I'm not holding out much hope. I suppose it's good at least that Sega/Sonic Team decided to hold off on Ep 3 until they see how well the 2nd one does. Least shows they care, I guess? :v:

And I agree that not being able to play as Tails alone is quite bullshit. But if I had to hazard a guess as to why I'd say that the reason they don't want you to is because you could easily cheese their shitty level design and just 'fly + hold right to win'.

Or maybe they're just really lazy. Possibly both.
