I think he's joking :p Too bad this is a fake, but sorta interesting video just to as an idea for what the early demo might have been, I guess.
Smooth? The jump physics are complete crap, period. Heck, it even looks like when going down it accelerates at a different rate than when going up. Wasn't there a video showcasing it at some point supposedly in an expo? But then why the hell don't we have a copy of that video yet? (then again how long did it take before drx pointed out certain late prototype footage in some old 1991 video...)
No video, but Naka was shown the two scans we have and said they were from the very first tech demo. (aka not mock ups) He had wanted to include the tech demo in SMC, but could not find it.
Obvious fake. It totally has the inebriated physics of Almost Every Fangame Engine. Also, the technical discrepancies (hues, lack of border, etc.) that others have already identified.
Video # 2 has been uploaded. Once again, This person still isn't showing us any proof that this is real.
qouting the comment I made on the video at hand: "fake name, fake description, fake title, fake? game. The whole damn thing is a fake."
If this is the real deal, what if the physics are odd looking because Sonic Team was still ironing out the engine?
As many others have pointed out, the entire thing looks slapped together in GameMaker. (Or I guess MMF is the popular solution around the Sonic community :P) If you look at it critically these results could be achieved through writing a few movement methods in about five minutes. The roll is probably nothing more than a sprite swap with forward movement, intended only to *look* like Sonic's rolling The movement is very robotic and unnatural, unlike anything we've seen from the series. Yes, its hard to say for sure its not Sonic Team working the kinks out of the engine, but the fact is SEGA's Mickey Mouse and Mario killer wouldn't look so robotic at any stage in development, especially when there are interviews stating the earlier builds of the game had to be slowed down, and that they knew the game had to be built on momentum and speed, ontop of being perfectly polished for release. Its so fake it hurts
You're all missing something here. Andrew75 said it was his friend. He's also going along with this in all his posts. Andrew75 is the one trolling us :P. See the post below...
Hey guys, I'm getting alot of Im's and E-mail's about this video, Alot of them asking if I made the demo or video, Just to clear things up.... I did not make the video or demo. I wouldn't have the time to make such a video or demo as all my time goes to working, home renovations and project AXSX, I origonally wanted to post this, so that it could be dissected and ripped apart, as I know many of you have a very keen eye, I'm just as curious to find out if it is real or not. seems many of the observations are pointing to........ being a fake.....
Heck, no. The only Sonic 1 beta hack I know of was essentially the final version with a few changes, not something extremely stripped down like this.
Refusal to show any proof that it's real is a bigger flag of a fake than any sprite errors combined. On a side note: goddamn, those trees look trippy when scrolling on the TV from that angle.
Well fuck. This guy stole my idea that I had yesterday >:C This seems VERY interesting though. Would like to see a rom if it does exist. BUT it DOES seem like a fan game. But we need to wait for Yuji Naka to say something before we jump onto conclusions though.
