I feel like maybe they could have squeezed Metal Sonic on there too. I'd want Amy and Metal Sonic cuz Sonic CD And I wound up getting the hat for Christmas! It's a fantastic hat.
That's pretty awesome. Also while I can recall seeing the art of the characters from other places, that Amy art is one I haven't seen.
My favourite merchandise so far is Jazwares' figures. It's hard to believe they get that much articulation with such tiny limbs. .... Until the joints break, anyway. Currently all mine are intact except Sonic. Gone through three Sonics so far.
What's the off chance that that is new classic Amy art. You think someone at Sega might have whipped that up recently for the sole purpose of classic Sonic merchandise?
Quite possibly, yeah. Incidentally there are a few other pieces of art in the calendar that I've never seen before, I'll have to grab some pictures at some point, because I'm curious to know if anyone else has ever seen them.
I'm not really much of a collector or anything, but I do love Sonic merchandise. I managed to come across these awesome Sonic figures. They might not be the coolest collections in the world, but they mean a lot to me. I started going to the Nintendo Experience in Melbourne, Australia about a year ago and would play Smash Bros. Brawl there now and then. By going pretty often I managed to make a couple friends and we all started playing Brawl pretty regularly. I of course made friends with all of the staff there as they are all Brawl players and love to challenge me to matches. It was always a lot of fun and it was a great way to meet cool people in a completely foreign country. There were two anime conventions I went to around this point of time. At both of them I managed to meet a girl who was ridiculously good at Brawl. I beat her at the tournament at one convention and she took me out at the next convention a few months later. It was not everyday I came across such a good player. I started talking to her after the tournament and we quickly became friends. I told her how some friends and I all play Brawl regularly at the Nintendo Experience and asked her if it was possible if she could come by some time. She lived a bit away from the place, but luckily traveled around there to go to school. So she said she would do her best to try and show up. Not a week after that she starts showing up. One of the staff members decides to throw an impromptu tournament and all the Brawl regulars at the Nintendo Experience goes at it. The girl takes me out and ends up challenging the staff member running the impromptu tournament for the finals. Anxiety definitely gets a hold of her and she loses the match pretty hard. Some jokes are thrown around and well and a grudge is formed. She's determined to take him out in the next one. The impromptu tournament happens again a week later and everyone is ready to give it their best shot. I manage to take down that great girl player and the previous champion. I am so overjoyed to be the new champion and have a great time playing with everyone. The 'impromptu' tournament becomes a weekly thing and all the regular Brawlers show up for each one. I win two more tournaments in a row before I'm taking out by my female friend. This is the point when people really start to consider the two of us the best Smash players at the Nintendo Experience. Our rivalry grows fierce. I win the next tournament and carry on as the champion for quite a few others. But every match in the Finals is against her. I'm told our battles are insanely intense and a great pleasure to watch. Then something really cool starts to happen. People, from really random places, start showing up at the store specifically asking for either myself or my rival. As we both show up, like clock work, once a week it's not really hard for us to meet with these people. We've been challenged by people who 'used to play Brawl', 'used to play professionally in melee', and finally by a couple people considered some of the best in all of Australia. Now most of these guys aren't quite at my skill level or that of my rival's, but the few that were some of the best in Australia? Now that was scary stuff. None the less my rival and I have not given up a tournament to a single outsider. Needless to say the number of people with growing interest in playing Brawl at the Nintendo Experience is always growing. I've made so many friends in 2013 by playing Brawl with people from all over the world. Friends with other Brawlers, friends with regular customers at the establishment, and friends with all of the staff members. So when the staff at Nintendo Experience, knowing I'm a huge Sonic fan, gave me all of these figures as a Christmas gift... I couldn't of been happier. When I look at these gifts I don't just see the awesome icons of my favorite video games. I also see all of the jokes and laughs I've been sharing with my new friends in this country so far away from the place I used to call home. Thank you all for reading this!
That was the closest American Sonic ever got to looking good, although his spikes are a little off and idk what his right hand is trying to do.
Got this at Anime Expo last week. Really cool item, a slide puzzle/bank/can. Love it when I see some classic Sonic merch. Only 2 bucks and brand new too, I couldn't resist.
Seems like my sorta topic, ...Sorta. I don't really collect Sonic much any more, but these are the few items I've gotten in last year or so. -Sonic Lost World tote bag - Metal Sonic Postcards and Keychain - Sonic and Amy Pinched! Keychains - Sonic Adventure Phone Pouch - Sonic Lost World clear file - Jet Set/Grind Radio promotional video for the press/ or it could be one of those JSR fruit machine videos. - Project Diva EXTEND limited edition SEGA Store edition CD (There was also a phone card, sticker and a promo CD with music tracks from SEGA). And the biggest thing is a Sonic Adventure Japanese store cut out they had around SA's launch there, it's as tall as me and is in relatively good condition for something that is 16 years old! It's a gorgeous set piece.
The Sonic Retro wiki has this category called "merchandise". It's pretty dire given that it contains virtually nothing from this 43-page topic. So I've begun the laborious process of documenting Sonic merhandise. It's very early stages and I might not have the heart to finish the job (Sega Retro is my one true love these days), so I'm throwing this out here to see who bites. Essentially, all the stuff from this topic needs to go up on our wiki at some stage - it'll be a bit soul-crushing in some cases but you guys will know more about this subject than me. Photos and scans, official stuff only. Actual documentation and categorisation is up to you. The idea is if someone on the internet is looking for something questionable like an official Sonic the Hedgehog pillow case, they'll know to look at Sonic Retro first. Borg etc. Join in - you all have accounts.
Sorry I'm super new to Retro but I do collect lots of promotional and bonus Sonic shit that I could add to the database if need be.
Posting this here since there seemed to be some slight interest in the Ad thread: Complete set of Sonic Advance 3 Coca-Cola keychains. Probably won't be able to contribute too much as far as high quality scans and photographs, but I have a fairly good knowledge of the origin of quite a bit of merch out there as a side effect of collecting things off and on since the 90's. No idea how to add anything to the wiki, though. I can be contacted via Steam (Zingela) to be pointed in the right direction, I suppose. Seems like a good project, though. The only place I know of with a large catalog of items listed is Sonic Gear, but the guy running it loves to make all of the images tiny as hell and writes the most bizzare (and often times outright wrong) descriptions of the items.
So I figured this didn't deserve it's own topic, but question. Anyone have any good methods for creating a Genesis box for Sonic and Knuckles? Those 2 cardboard boxes I have sit on my shelf, mocking me.
I've thought about buying one of these things: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sonic-and-Knuckles-Sega-Genesis-Collectors-Case-No-Game-/371012537026?pt=US_Video_Game_Cases_Bags&hash=item5662120ac2
