I say just let the project die now with the respect that people had for it back when it was active. If you honestly get truly upset though, you're retarded because it's just a Sonic ROM hack. It's just something that was originally meant for everyone's entertainment. I don't know Tweaker's motive for leaving now is, but I'm sure the whole preview thing didn't help at all.

After all is said and done, I see no reason NOT to go commercial. I think it could cause a revolution in the video game business. It's a small start to something big. Sega needs a jump start. Just look at how long it took to take Sonic 1 and make some even MORE amazing than itself. One day I'm sure we could apply the same principals to Sonic Adventure, and so on. I beleive this is only the beginning.

Aside from the legal problems that would cause, I'd buy it.
I've played more of Megamix in the past 2 years than I have of the original Sonic 1.
On the topic at hand, it's a shame to see this project dissolve so quickly without anything to show for the past 6 months or so of work. I honestly can't see Stealth doing anything with it, it's not his style.

With all due respect, you're are getting a little too out there for me. This thing could never go commercial. I don't mean it's not good, I'm saying nobody would ever buy it. Some of us would, but we're a small portion of the population. That's like the people I saw on hln.org saying how Huey Lewis should make the new Pineapple Express song into a single and make a video for it, and how "oh this could be a big hit". The drummer of the band is saying "it's just a stupid song that plays at the credits, it wasn't designed to be a hit". Well, he's right! It's not designed to be such, and likewise Tweaker's hack is not designed in any way shape or form to sell. It's good, but it's not sellable. So I think the idea is completely crazy.

This is the dumbest thing I ever read.

Seconded. Though I have read things stupider.
Just a little something could make this a revolution in the hacking scene, and even if not, it's an inspiration for many in the scene, myself included.

The last 10 pages of this thread are the dumbest things I've ever read.
Really.
Really.

Really sorry to hear about this, and wish you the best of luck for any future endeavours. I also hope the other members of Team Megamix are able to complete it - it would be a real shame IMO if after all the hard work everyone put into it it was never released.

So, is the hack cancelled because Tweakers not on the project? The wiki page says it is, but Tweaker, and that other guy that just quit were part of a team.

That said, an official consensus has been reached:
Sonic 1 Megamix is officially discontinued.
We have chosen to release the work we have. The game has had many changes, including a port to the Sega CD by Stealth. There is one ISO for each region, and the game should work perfectly on hardware, with a few exceptions; a few Knuckles sections will crash the system, and the pitch adjustment in the sound test doesn't work on hardware either. However, BRAM is fully functional, among other things. This is nowhere near what an ideal final release would be like, but there's really nothing more to be said. The game is in a playable state, although it is stressed that this is by no means in an ideal state for a full release. There were many things we had planned but could not achieve, and these things will never be achieved.
No, the hack will not become open source. No, it will not be passed onto anyone. No, it will not be continued at a later point in time. Being a final release, bug reports are utterly useless, as are any suggestions. What you see is what you get, and hopefully you can enjoy it for what it is. I wish I could say that Team Megamix was something great and unrivaled; a team that set a precedent in the community when it came to team hacks. Unfortunately, it collapsed like all the rest, and I'm not proud of that. Hopefully you can see this for what it is and enjoy it nonetheless.
It was a wonderful experience to work on this game. It had its ups and downs, but I offer the utmost gratitude towards all the team members who stuck through when things got rough, and all the people who have ever seriously supported this project. Stress is not always easy to deal with it, but the sincere people who didn't suck up, who didn't demand anything, and who weren't complete tools—all your words are sincerely appreciated. I hope it doesn't seem like we've disappointed you, but we've certainly tried our best.
It's nobody's fault specifically that Team Megamix didn't work out; I'd say that it was a collaborative effort, like all things in this project. :P I have to thank Stealth especially for sticking with things as long as he has... I know we don't always get along, but hopefully we can break off this alliance on good terms. It's probably wishful thinking, but it's worth a shot.
And that's that, folks. The end of a legacy. I wish better luck to the rest of you. Sonic 1 Megamix beckons you for download links.

Well, since there's no point begging for you to continue, good job megamix team, on what you finished.
