Nice find!! I think the original title screen and pallete for Sonic suits the game much better than the red recolor, but the game itself has surprised me, is quite more complex than what I thought it was going to be from the pictures, although phisics are too sloppy. A nice homebrew.

I recorded a video of if, if you want to take a look.

As for the name of the game, while Minic the Hedgehog certainly works...

The title roughly translates to "Go to see Hedgehog" or "Go to see a Hedgehog".

For example if you said 映画を見に行く it is roughly "Go to see a movie"

So basically... I have no idea. :\ My guess would be "see about getting Sonic to work on this machine" due to the homebrew nature?

It's not complicated, certainly. It's a grammar pattern you learn in the first year. It's just kind of bland.

Oh, and ぞ! is just an assertive ending basically used by men who think they're the shit (or just normal people if you don't want to believe your professors who lie to you constantly)

That nonsensical title (which is pronounced "Mi ni iku zo Hedgehog") is just a big pun on "Sonikku za hedgehog".

So "Minic the hedgehog" would be correct.

Notably the romanization used is "Mi ni Ikuzo! Hedgehog", for future reference.

... not much else to go with. We may just have to ask this blogger, if all else fails.

What is this thing Dreamcast is standing on? It's about the same size and design.

It diverges to other Net Yaroze stuff partway in but I messed around with Minick for a while on this video:

.... now that I think about it, does this make "Minic the Hedgehog" the earliest documentation of a Sonic fan character?

Aside: Nakamura's demo tracks fit Minic pretty damn well if you're looking for musical backing.

1993's a bit too late for that - it's after all the speculation about what Tails might be called.

I wouldn't consider fans guessing names for a new official/canon character to be remotely related to "Here's my Sonic character, he's colored red and smaller." :P

It took two years, but we now have a Wiki page for it, complete with the PS1 executable for download: Minic the Hedgehog

Also, this tweet made back in November 2015 (after I had shared the PS1 port here) mentions the possibility of this game being made by Umihara Kawase co-creator Kiyoshi Sakai, given that the Net Yaroze 2012/2014 collection lists the name as Minic's author.

Sure enough, both Minic the Hedgehog and Umihara Kawase use the exact same font style for the HUD and other text:

So, I guess we now know the creator of this old fangame went on to make the Umihara Kawase series? Perhaps someone could ask about Minic so we can hopefully find the X68k original?
