I was watching this video and thinking about how much better that stage seems with simply a different BGM.

I don't have anymore examples to start off this thread with at the moment, but I'm sure many Retro goers have felt the same way about one stage or another.

So, post your stages with your preferred music if it isn't the original. I'd love to see what some of you think.

Not being familiar with modern Sonic games, I was baffled at how linear and boring this level appears to be (being on rails is even worse than auto-scrolling, a thing which poor Bridge Zone is so criticised for). Is this really what passes for a Sonic level nowadays? Anyway, the music is indeed pretty good, but I honestly can't see it making a level like this any better.

I personally think the original track fits the level more, but maybe it's because I like the original music more than the track they used in their mod. Though I will say this track from Sonic R in the Sonic R Lost World mod fits this level pretty well. Hell Sonic R's soundtrack fits well with the game surprisingly. :v:

In fairness, the After Burner theme makes everything awesome.

I mean, if you're gonna replace the music, you should find something that fits the level thematically. The one shown above plays like a minecart level from Donkey Kong Country, so maybe one of these songs would be perfect:

After Burner's a rail shooter, this level is on-rails and has things shoot at you. :v:

Original music to the water level is much better. Sorry, ain't buying what you're selling.

Wow, that makes a really big difference indeed... It almost made me forget it was Sonic fucking 4.

Original, for comparison:

Yikes!

@Covarr,

Now that you mention DKC, I actually like how the Ice Theme from DKC2 sounds in relation to the level.

Sonic Lost World - Sonic R Mod Update

I only thought those Sonic R songs were fitting for the Ice levels... The model however is surprisingly fitting. Especially with Sonic's annoying vocals removed. Gives the game a different, cool retro-ish feel to it that it didn't have before. Makes me wanna take this mod and replace the music with some genesis BGMs.

Mine Cart Madness - Donkey Kong Country (SNES) Music Extended

Donkey Kong Country Returns Music: Rickety Rails (Mine Cart Madness Returns)

I don't know about the DKC:R song fitting very well but the original DKC song would fit perfectly with some adjustments to the sound-front.

Special Stage Music Test

I can respect that since the original song for the stage I posted was very good as well. But YES, that is a perfect example. All of Sonic 4 sounds better with a replaced soundtrack... and is especially better with classic model mods.

Does my withered heart good to see my SLW 3DS Special Stage music mod for Sonic 4-2 getting kicked around still. :v:
