ok...wtf just happened. here's my 2ยข

Well, fuck it. I've given my final tree on
this page, and I'm fed up with the idiots who honestly think the trunk is the fucking problem. The trunk was easy as shit and was over with. The checkered pattern was a cute addition, but fuck this is getting far too ridiculous. A SERIES OF ROTATING OCTAGONAL PRISMS. The very fact that this even had a chance of being brought up, boggles my mind to a boiling point. Isn't there enough work out there? We're not making Sonic 4...5, we're making Sonic 2 HD. We need to stick to the material handed to us. A simple. cylindrical. tree. How can this possibly be hard?
I just want to express the great extent of my concurrence with this. also:

[...] give the damn thing some warm shadows. Don't just make it a darker shade of green, and the change in value on the tree shouldn't be so wide a range, otherwise it looks like shiny Play-Doh. That's why the edges are brownish-red. I did the same for the trunk. Someone had a good idea with the checkers and bark and shit, so I added bumps on the side so it doesn't look quite so sterile. Just throwing this out there.
as much as I love the idea of the tree having a more organic look (especially the 'ring' near the bottom), unless there's an array of different tree palette objects which are chosen at random to be placed in the HTZ levels, it might look a little weird having that
same conspicuous tree everywhere. as far as the warmness of the colors go,...well I just don't see HTZ as a level with warm hues; the sky is a blue-to-semi-turquoise-blue, and it's in the mountains not during a sunset...sooooo....yeah that's it. ^^
