Double post because I seem to be a thread killer whenever I post somewhere.

Today I learnt that each of the 2P characters in SA2 has their own colour scheme when you load up a level. For example: Metal Sonic

I found this going on a character swap vid.

^ I've always been curious about that. Is that a fact or was that added via a mod?

So is anyone familiar with this Sonic Adventure concept art depicting an early Egg Carrier?

Turns out it was used for something after all, in Sonic Pinball Party of all things:

The Egg Carrier concept art is used as a target in the X Zone map.

A bit late, but for what it's worth, this is the final build date, not the release date. The game was sent to manufacturing around that time, and the game hit store shelves on 2/2/94 ("Hedgehog Day") in the US. (Slightly later in other regions; for some unknown reason, Sega decided to region-lock Sonic 3, so they had three separate ROMs that all differed by a single byte.)

Well spotted - it's always good to see concepts being recycled rather than thrown away entirely.

Ya I was quite surprised to see that used again (Only playing that game again since it makes a pretty good cell phone game via emulator). Sonic Pinball Party was a very strange game though. It had Sonic Advance 1 themes but then threw in some Sonic 1 music, Sonic R music, some Sonic Adventure themes, and it was Metal Sonic's only appearance on the GBA (complete with ripped off Sonic CD art).

I just realised that the character swap mod showcased in that video was made by our very own MainMemory which leads me to think that he's made them himself. Regardless, I dropped a quick message anyway to his inbox to clarify if he had or not.

EDIT: MainMemory got back to me insanely quickly. Apparently Neo did the colour schemes for the SA2: New Challengers mod.

Yeah, Neo made those for Sonic Adventure 2: The New Challengers and I stole them for my mod. The base game only cares about the primary character designation (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Eggman, Rouge).

    Hi.

Funny enough that was 1 of my first few posts on Retro, so thank you for the flashback! :)/>

Yes, that's the joke. I was celebrating the birthday of this ROM, not the release of the game itself.

So there I was, watching PewDiePie talking about how he's going to delete his channel after he hits 50 million subscribers as a sort of disobedience act. He mentions that YouTube has started to recommend content that the client doesn't care about. This clearly isn't the thread for talking about this, but while I could understand where he was coming from, I find it really ironic that I looked to the sidebar and found a video that was actually really interesting to me.

The video happens to be random Sonic knowledge, hence why I'm posting this.

So everyone loves the Sonic Unleashed opening, but did you know that there are actually three versions of it?

To show the differences, I will be using one specific frame for comparison.

Most are familiar with the version used in the 360/PS3 version of the game, which is all over YouTube.

Another one that is also well known, but many don't realize is different, is the version that is used in the PS2/Wii version of the game and in the trailers. This one has the cutscene displayed in a native 16/9 aspect ratio, rather than the cropped, 160/67 aspect ratio used in the 360/PS3 version of the game. Unfortunately, the only full version of this is in 480p.

The least well known one is actually the most interesting. This version is only available on Marza's website. The difference here is that, for a few frames, Sonic's skeleton shows up when he is being electrocuted. It is unknown why this was removed. Unfortunately again, this one has the lowest quality of them all.

I remember reading in Prima's Sonic Advance 2 guide that SEGA has a rule against showing Sonic's skeleton. I gotta go dig that up.

EDIT: Found it. Second from the bottom.

The fourth "additon" of the the Mega Drive series (Sonic & Knuckles) had Knuckles' skeleton on display, so Sega is a little inconsistent in its mandates

I refuse to take any of the drivel this typo-laden thing spews seriously. This is coming from an owner of a PAL REV01 cart.[/nerdrage]

Eh, I know Prima isn't exactly the be-all end-all of Sonic knowledge. Just happened to remember that guide when the question came up about why Sonic's skeleton would have been removed from Unleashed's opening prior to release.

So... any ideas as to why Sonic Adventure's Japanese disc contains an address list for half of Japan?

    https://www.mediafire.com/?91aj3jtuy29hmtv

It has everything from random cemeteries and stadiums to the ministry of foreign affairs and Capcom's HQ :v:
