Alright, I've added some curvature to the bottom parts of the spikes. It's subtle, but I think it looks better. Plus, it makes the gap less obvious as intended.

Those spikes are looking better, but would it be too much to add even more curvature at the bottom? I'm asking in case you've already tried and it looked too odd...

By the way, I think Trunks' approach at Emerald Hill's foreground is the best one so far, untextured and all just like the original. If anything, I'd fix the colors a little and try to keep the shading in the grass at the same heights as the original, but I wouldn't change the straight lines or add any textures, because the original just wasn't supposed to be like that.

    Are you guys fucking retarded

All that he did was mess with the color levels on my picture and add shitty photoshopped grass, grass which I obviously hadn't finished yet

If you didn't get that my last pic was sarcasm in a nutshell, you should very quickly go die

I am so fucking tired of having to deal with retardity other than my own, which is why I'm never touching this topic again

    That is all

No, but it seems you have some serious anger issues you need to work out. I don't know what the fuck your problem is, but take a day off and figure it out.

I agree with Iceknight that the foreground should be untextured, looks way better and closer to the original style.

What? No one claimed that the art was theirs. Just making some small "improvements" on what you had posted. That style grass with your blocks look absolutely wonderful. Especially with the added yellow from Zenor. I would be interested to see what you might have come up with for the grass though.

Seriously, this topic has been full of people trying to make improvements to other's previously posted art. I think it's been working out great so far, why would you get so upset?

  7. Geez, I wonder how many casualties there'll be by the end of this project. -_-

I don't understand why you're so belligerent Neo. Your bricks seem to have been well received and the fact that somebody used your art to improve the grass before you'd finished it doesn't mean you can't do your own interpretation. This is a team project, so we need team players.

About the grass: I agree that the yellow should be used and no texture should be on it.

About the spikes: I'm working on a slightly more curved version that is hopefully slightly more accurate to the original sprite (particularly regarding the depth of the shallower gap, which was slightly deeper than it should've been).

I think the Neo + Trunks combination for this tile is looking great so far. We're definitely getting closer on this one. I agree with IceKnight that that lines on the grass should be kept vertical just as they were in the original. The shadows also ought to be a bit thicker I think, with a couple of layers.

BTW Iapetus, thanks for the info about the production of SF2T HD, very interesting. Hopefully we'll be able to learn a lot from their mistakes.

I'd also like to see a bit of texture on the rocks. At the moment they look a bit naked to me - I think the shine though looks quite nice, it just needs perhaps something to slightly contrast it to give it more of a rocky appearance.

Please don't abuse yellow like that, make a smaller and gentler shade or we'll have a pulsing grass!!

-Add a light texture to the blocks OR give more contrast to both dark and shiny spots.
-The shadow is too flat, it should be darker with a little gradient effect.
-Some grass's tip is still too big.

By the way it's coming out really good.

    Congratulations everyone!!

Blue, the spikes are getting better in this second revision
(Do not ignore Iceknight's suggestion, because I also think it could be perfect like that)

This thread is concentrated win. Also reminds me of the logo graphic I did for that Sonic 2 Remastered/Enhanced thing Me and Cinos (mostly Cinos) did a few years ago:

I never knew that you and Cinossu had a crack at remastering the Sonic 2 soundtrack!

I've just listened to all of them, Casino Night and Act Clear are by far, in my opinion, the best. I think we should definitely use those, with you guys' permission. The Final Boss theme I think has great potential, it does need redoing, although the chanting in the background I love, it really has an ominous tone to it. Emerald Hill is I think good too, it might be good for us to use.

The problem with the stuff you guys are doing right now is that you should've gone for the vram blocks basis. Ideally, the hacked emulator would calculate the hash for each tile stored on the vram, and then display a determinated image through a hash table (wich in fact, this is probably how the Nintendo 64 emulators do it). However, you seem not to be taking in count the inherent limitations of working directly with the 8x8 blocks (most fancy effects will look very wrong as a major part of the tiles are repeated across the mappings). If you want to keep this route, you should stay to pure direct conversion of the tiles to HD or do some heavy editing to both it & the Sonic 2 rom to interact between them, but if you ask me, I would just go for the Retro Sonic solution :3

Why did you use Unicode little endian on that page? that's such a bizarre choice! It's not even compatible with DownThemAll so I can't grab all the mp3s =P

Oh my god, I love all of that. CNZ is amazing!
Back on topic, the latest EHZ art is amazing. Also, that title screen image is pretty good, the art style is slightly different to what we're seeing in this topic, but it still looks pretty fitting, what do the rest of you think?

It's nice, but I don't think it's fitting. I think some of the outlines are excessively thick, and that the glow is somewhat excessive. I also think some of the shading on the characters makes them look a bit too spongy.

.. ha ha, Blaze, I'd forgotten all about us doing that. I really should have a go at redoing them again.

...Exactly what I was gonna say. Not that it's terrible, but it wouldn't fit at all with this project.

I think it's safe to say that the characters look much better with simple vector art.

I like some of those, but I personally prefer the ones I did better. For example, my Hidden Palace Zone doesn't sound like it's coming out of Scotland. =P

I'd agree that your renditions are better, though I'd be interested to see Cinossu's final boss theme redone. In fact, I'd say the two of you with your heads together solves most of our music issues for this project.
