Any research on the SA2 "Download Event" format?

I'm wondering if there's been any research done on the "Download Event" feature in the Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure 2. The only thing it's been officially used for is three Kart race courses, but due to the generic, non-Kart-specific title of the feature, I wouldn't be surprised if it had other, unused functionality. Plus, custom Kart courses could still be cool, though to be fair it would probably be a lot more convenient to use the PC version (which lacks the Download Event feature) for that.

Does anyone know any technical details about this feature?

By the way, these Kart courses are not just content already on the disc that the download simply unlocks, like the rest of the DLC (and even a lot of modern DLC) is. They had a contest where people could design their own courses to be made playable, so that would have been impossible. Actually, I seem to remember them saying the unique Kart model in the "Fantasy Zone" one (shown in this video along with the other three courses) was designed after a clay model the entrant sent in with their course design, so it could be a pretty versatile feature.

Actually had to pull up my notes and google for them to figure out if I posted them anywhere. :-)

Dan & Jial from Dreampipe have been reverse engineering the dlc files for quite some time now. I think (i might be wrong) that they did manage to change it up a bit, i know the sa1 dlc they managed to alter the objectives of the events though they have yet to release the dlc events to the dreamcast web pages. I think they have been focusing their attention on the Chao rankings & Black market features.

Oh wow, I completely forgot about that! Thanks! (Funny you said "if you wait a few years" in that thread.)

Where have they posted their findings?

They have not posted there "Findings" Per say as they have just discussed about it on the Dreampipe BB and the Dreamcast-Talk. I Know the next next Day or two when Dan gets internet again there are some major updates coming to the SA1 site so it might be that. My guess us it will be the Black Market coming back online or the Chao rankings working again :specialed:

Can confirm as a heads up that in the next few days (Or a week), the features i mentioned will come back and more :specialed: And maybe after that they might look at doing new dlc. I know Jial will be busy in the next 2 weeks so one will have to wait till then. Im sure if jial had the time he could do it considering how much he has brought back for the site

Will the Black Market be implemented for both SA1 and SA2? Also, do you know if the Chao download files will be the official ones from the original SA1 and SA2 sites, or custom ones? Because these are among the few DLC for these games that isn't available anywhere anymore.

I know its for sa1, im fairly certain that sa2 has not been cracked yet but that will come back in the future. As for the chao i think they have found most of the chao files to host. I will do a update on this the moment its up and running
