So yes, Sonic is a quarter of a century old now. Goodness, doesn't the time fly? It's strange to think that five years ago the majority of us here were either playing or picking our way through the GHZ Generations demo, uncovering all the juicy details within. For this, never change Sonic (and by extension Sonic Retro). Great stuff! + - Eggman tripping over the Motobug and Knuckles' hat sells it for me.
So I'm celebrating the blue blur's 25th anniversary now. Just got off of work, so I couldn't celebrate while I was there. I'm listening to Quartz Quadrant present off the Japanese soundtrack, and debating on if I should play a game, or work on a hacking project to celebrate. :v: Long live Sonic, without the very first game I wouldn't have been the gamer I am today.
I celebrated by sleeping for far too long. Does that count? Kinda amazed that there isn't any info about a game. Hell I'd take platform details at this point.
I played through the StealthTax 1-2 releases on an Android emulator today. Might fire up CD as well. I have an odd craving to also play through Sonic R of all things. Too bad none of these 25th anniversary videos are truly comprehensive. I'd love to see one that mentions all the mobile games as well as mainline ones. So much of my fun with the franchise was spent in the Game Gear games and Advance series that it's sad to see they're never remembered anymore.
Let's celebrate by looking back at what this hedgehog accomplished these past 25 years:
Boy I feel dumb. For some reason I thought it was the 21st and I even posted something to my Instagram account about it on that day. And then this morning I see all sorts of 25th anniversary stuff and I was just like ._. But I digress. Happy 25th anniversary to the character and franchise that has given me and many others years of good games, shitty games, memes, and furry porn. :v: I would celebrate by playing Sonic Generations but since my desktop is fucked and I don't feel like waiting for Steam to download the game on here, I'll just hook up the Genesis and play the original on that for a bit.
This is the specific one I got: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXVQF1C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They have some others, too.
I bought a foot-long chili dog, slapped in Sonic the Hedgehog, and went to town. Yes I stand by my wording.
Sonic's Facebook Page posted some photos also... Spoiler I finished Sonic Lost World from Start to Finish yesterday... (if anyone cares)
I ended up playing through R and watching an episode of AOSTH and Sonic X respectively. Also, the Boom cartoon was put up in its entirely on Hulu. The game is godawful, but the show at least seems competently written from what little of it I've seen so far. Might be worth a glance for those who still wish to celebrate.
I celebrated the anniversary by playing through my favourite Sonic game - 3 & Knuckles - last night on the actual hardware (which I haven't done for years; relying instead on emulators). I also wrote this piece about the Sonic series and what it's meant to me over the years
I played the crap out of ROM Hacks last night, all the better by most of them being available on Genesis Hub. //forums.sonicretro.org/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png Happy birthday, Sonic, and may you be with us for 25 more.
I played through 3D Sonic 1 yesterday, and very nearly failed to get all the Emeralds. I only had four when I got to Star Light Zone. I'm getting old.
Don't feel too bad. Last time I played through Sonic 1 and tried for the Emeralds, I had five at the end of Starlight, and and had forgotten there aren't any in Scrap Brain. Which really didn't matter because I lost all my rings right at the end of Act 2. I've gotten them all before, legitimately, but the maze isn't my favorite Special Stage, so lack of trying has certainly affected my ability to complete them, heh. I much prefer the halfpipe and Blue Sphere.
Sonic's anniversary is also my birthday (believe it or not my birthday is June 23) and I ended up "celebrating" by playing Sonic 2 and CD mobile on a plane flight returning from a holiday. And that was pretty much the extent of my celebration. Wish I'd done something more like marathoned Sonic 1 with an actual control pad or something like that. Anyway happy birthday Sonic! May you entertain us and delight us for another 25 years.
Time for me to shamelessly plug my rather predictable music medley anniversary tribute thingy. :v: Every track which I picked is my personal favourite music track from each year of Sonic games, from 1991 to 2015. Gave me an excuse to make some custom title cards, which was fun to do. Sonic is so old already, and that makes me feel old too. 25 years gone by fast like it aint no thing!
