A few small changes were done (mainly shading-related).

Anyways, expect for mainly 1 or 2 more small changes, this is pretty much as good as I can get it. Ya can try to improve it if ya want to, for I have no idea how to improve this thing much more than its current state.

So yeah, tell me what ya think, ok? :3

Since no one is being sincere....

It's horrible. Srsly.

First, it looks you just used HQ4x on it and made it worse, I mean, stop that. You'll need to restart if you want to continue, I've never seen vines with square leaves, come on, they don't look like leaves the look deformations! Forget the original references and ask yourself, what was this supposed to be? Leaves. Do they look like leaves? No. Then you could have made leaves, if you made that even in paint it would be better than this.

I don't like to sound assy but this is really terrible.

You don't. I will try my hand at this, just gotta figure out how to draw with vectors in a program besides Flash. I know I could make it in raster, but it is so difficult to edit with it and its not preferred... Have a little faith.

I'm gonna say things in this order:

1.) I could change those things into leaves(or as best an interpretation of leaves as I could) to make it look a bit better.

2.) Maybe if somebody would like to do the vines, then attach them to my platform thing, maybe it'd work out better. I dunno, it could work.

3.) Maybe I should explain my process so you'd see exactly how I did this:

a.) I Took a sprite (in this case the skilift thingy) and brought it to the size you saw it at.
b.) Then I went and picked from 3-8 colors per shade on both the vines and platform to work with.
c.) once through with that, I went and did my best at trying to smooth out both the outside and inside pixels to where they weren't square-ish. (this may be the part that could be why it may look bad, but I dunno.)
d.) After this process was done'd, I then started from the darkest shade and worked up to the brightest shade, making sure I didn't miss any important shades.
e.) I then went and tried to fix some small details I thought didn't look right, and edited a few shades to blend the shades in better.
f.) finally, I posted it here for you people to see/critisize.

Hopefully ya understand when I say that this was not easy to get to its current state, but I guess I still have a long ways to go before I can get it to a level that makes it look as awesome as it should be. Hopefully I can get it to look that awesome one of these days. Until then, imma keep on trying to get it to look right.

That's not the right HDizing proccess. First you should have in mind what they tryied to represent, then you draw over it to be sure the PROPORTIONS AND ALIGNMENTS (NOT THE SHAPES) are OK. Then you get rid of the original art and start the creativity process.

Sincerely I have to agree. There's no shading on the main platform, so the diagonal vines both the "circle ones" are so much pixelized. This gives us the impression that this is retried from some emulator with a triple or quadruple resolution, or some kind of automatic vectorization. I noticed that has no additions too. So, we hope for something better next time.

The only thing I could find in Google that could be useful was this picture of some vines:

So the sprite's vine colour is wrong from the start (that is, unless it's a different type of plant?)

Perhaps something like this?

OP updated with your concept ME.

ancara, don't take it personally. What's been said is all accurate.

Just because one person has started working on a piece does not mean others can't start as well. Sometimes the best inspiration comes from seeing others' approach.

Can anyone suggest a program which is good for drawing in vector? I was using Jasc Paint Shop, but it is SHIT. Maybe I don't know enough about vector, but Jasc is impossible to draw with and any effect I try to add, such as "smudge", immediately changes my image to raster. I used to use Flash MX and was very proficient with it. What program will allow me to draw with the same ease?

And you've got a full set of video tutorials for S2HD, too! wink.png

Don't vines go brown with age? Not that I'm a plant expert... But I think young vines would be green (but then wouldn't they be weak? Hmm :S). Well, I guess there are many types of vines.
