Drex, awesome job with the drill. Don't be discouraged by how long it's taking you to produce art; it's great work.

This is Sonica's rendition of the HTZ badnik that he asked me to post.

About the Eggman, His waistline appears to be based off a section of a circle, like the original, but the new one's circle is too small, making it look like you're seeing him from a lower point of view than the original.
That's something I tried to fix in an old pic I posted:

-Right hand removed.
-Head and mustache shape.
-Left foot, leg and nearby shadows.
-Right leg and foot made a bit less stiff.
-Trouser line made less curve.

Please let's move the Robotnik's discussion on the Character Art topic :(

The Eggman I posted is to be used only for testing with bosses vehicle and not as a complete frame per se.

EDIT: Sonica's art is nice but I still don't get why He cannot setup a new account to post!

A few nitpicks:
- On the head, the highlight over the nose doesn't flow with the shape of the head, as it does on the original sprite
- The highlight on the back of the head seems to be in about the right place, but the colours in between stretch too far down. It makes the head look slightly flatter than the original
- On the neck section, the "seam" between the silver and pink metals is wrong, it should curl further back a tad. Also, the shape where it joins what looks like an extension of sorts at the bottom is wrong. The two curves should be equal (if you get my meaning, I'm not quite sure how to explain the area in question)
- Also, the highlight on the pink section of the neck is far too large, and also needs to be moved back slightly to fit in line with the original sprite
- On the body, the original has highlighting which looks like a curve joining a spot (lol technical terms), where the majority of the light hits. On the HD version, it looks like a curve and spot drawn separately, and then pasted one over the other. Also, where the curved highlight is brightest is before the groove, on the leftmost section, on the HD version, it's to the right of this groove. The groove itself also looks far too wide in comparison to that on the neck.
- Finally, I'm not sure I like the harsh transition between the colour of the bot and the shadow to the left of the neck and body. Maybe try a couple of colours in transition to soften the clash?

Hope some of those made sense =P

Thanks for your work on Rexon Sonica, it's coming along very well. I especially love the shiny shades, I think they look brilliant.

I agree with Blanche's feedback, some things that stood out most for me were:

- The shape of the front of the nose to the top of the head looks curved, it should be straight as per the original sprite.

- The shiny shade on the front of the nose - it's shape and the way it transitions doesn't match the original sprite.

- The opening of the mouth is a little too curved, it doesn't match the shape as the original sprite.

- The shadow at the base of the neck appears to be a little too large.

Great work so far. Please upload what you have done so far, with the source file, to the database when you are ready.

Looking at Metal-Geo's Spiker Posted Image I thought we could consider try adding some Metal gradients on the Boss Drill?

That would make my job a lot easier though I can't manipulate garadients much at all. Paint Shop only allows you a circle, square, and radial styles. I could never get the proper detail from those. I do have PhotoshopCS3 and IllustratorCS3, so if anyone knows if I can dynamically manipulate gradients with these programs similar to what I've done manually with the drill I'll gladly redo in that program.

I agree pretty much with everything he/she said. Just just follow the flow of the original sprite and then retouch.

I am not gradient expert like Metal-Geo, or Elratauru but that's my suggestion:

For those gradients (in illustrator)you can:

-Just make a triangle, fill it with the base color.
-Duplicate the triangle
-Cut the duplicated triangle with the scissors tool, into two halves. / | | \
-Give each half a linear gradient fill with the proper angle
-Set the blending method of both halves, to "Multiply"
-Add a white semitransparent image as the light source on top

G'day everyone!

Oh, heh. Please don't associate me with the real experts.

My technique in the Spiker can be... ahum... investigated in the original .ai file. My method mainly exists out of masks and blur filters. But honestly, I wouldn't know if this is the most efficient way.
If you people have the patience (and of course, wouldn't mind), I'd love to give the drill a try myself. Although I wouldn't expect anything to appear before the weekend.

Wish I could do more at the moment. :)

By the way, I'm now a trial member. Ok, I am fixing the bugs for the badnick I drew, and making some of my own improvements. So I will post another sheet out soon. =)
