So, here it is. Discuss Fleetway here!

Topic brought from another thread- could Archie handle an StC continuation, even with Nigel Kitching writing it?

Archie has a complete different approach to Sonic from STC. It's like a prime time soap opera mingled with action. STC was action with some character development on the side. So telling Archie to make such a thing would be impossible for them, as it would be for Nigel to even grasp the Archie vision as well.

I don't care what haters say. Captain Plunder and his immediate crew are one of the best characters ever created for Sonic. Funny, now that I think about it, Rush Adventure had a pirate named Johnny.

Hell bloody no. =P For a start they'd force in American-exclusive injokes, removing some of the charm from StC, and I suspect the staff would lean heavily on any writers they did bring in to toe the Archie line and maybe bring characters across. It'd be a fucking disaster. :(

American companies taking over British properties rarely work. There's something that just doesn't mesh properly. Look at all the failed attempts at remaking British shows. While Sonic's obviously different, with its many roots, Fleetway did have that quirky sense of humour, and references specifically to British pop culture at the time. In addition to the obvious stuff, like some references in regards to Amy to the 'girl power' craze, and the brilliant Prisoner adaptation, I specifically remember Tails once reversing the polarity of the neutron flow...

I'd love a revival, but it'd be somewhat difficult. They always tried their best to fit around the games, but since we have more of a formal narrative in the games now, wrapping themselves around that would be tougher. They tried well with Sonic Adventure, but it was a little awkward, a bit buried in continuity.

Such a good series, though. I loved seeing the zones brought to life in the artwork, and new takes like Metropolis Zone actually having... Well, a metropolis. The characters also worked really well, from the core cast to their own villains. Doctor Zachary was brilliantly designed (Archie obviously agree here...), and is quite close to the game style of design, and then there were the more out-there ones, like Metamorphia or Grimer.

What I also loved about them was that they brought clever sci-fi concepts to the younger generation. Both me and a friend of mine have commented that "The Sonic Terminator" helped bring about our love of time paradoxes, although Doctor Who was also a big help there for me. :p

I really like the first issues of Fleetway's Sonic comic, and really I think it had the right idea going in the direction it did. Sonic was just as said, a hedgehog with an attitude (rather than a surfer dude that has a thing for princesses), Tails was smart bUt also a naive kid, and Robotnik was a hard-boiled evil incarnate with some goofiness thrown in. Absolute bliss. <3 Especially since the designs for the characters were pretty spot-on as well as the environments (which unlike Archie/SatAM had surreal environments that related well towards the games, compared to Archiesonic's realistic landscapes). Plus, there was a note of better writing, better art (besides the glorious Spaz in the Archie comics), and more likable characters. Plus, it was better that they discluded soap opera mess and romance as well. Plus, psychotic Super Sonic rocks and you know it.

However I wasn't so happy whenever they "overwesternized" the deal and gave Robotnik his Milton Knight design and started revealing more Swatbot-like robots and grungier stuff than the ordinary. However the Brotherhood of Metallix were pretty cool.

tl;dr Fleetway series >>>>>>> Archie series. And I don't even live in the UK. :v:

The evil Super Sonic rules every other one out there!

I'd LOVE to see this version of Super in the Archie comics; I'd find it extremely interesting how they would be able to handle him.

They already had a variation when Archie Sonic touched the Red Chaos Emeralds

    Working on my art!
I'm actually quite fond of the enemies in the Archie series, save maybe the Destructix, it's just a cheesy group to counteract the Freedom Fighters and the Chaotix. However Nack, Mammoth Mogul, The Dark (Egg) Legion, That evil Echidna that looks like Dr. Zachary from the Fleetway series, and the Eggman Empire are awesome. Also I like how the comics brought Bark and Bean into the picture, as enemies none the less. I love the personalities involved with both the characters too.

I look at this and can't help but think "Seriously? That's really what you were going for?"

I've also heard that Sonic acts like a massive jerk in this comic. That kind of screws up the superhero esque inspirational side of Sonic.

Amy Rose was the archer in Fleetway. Tails could understand what a blue flicky said... o_<

I think he was just a bit more arrogant and cocky in this. It kind of fits really - he's good, and he knows it. When up against something that was / more than a match for him, this personality tended to retract a little.

The picture itself is a poor example of what Super's truly like, but if you knew what he was escaping from, and the Mobius-wide effect it caused, you probably wouldn't be so skeptical :p

I used to buy this comic when I was younger and it was available. Not every issue as money when I was the young was hard to come by but when I had the chance I did.
I don't remember a lot, but the stuff I do remember makes me wish they had officially continued it.
The brotherhood of Metallix was brilliant, a shame they all died the way did; seemed like a quick cop out to me.
Super Sonic going mental was funny but at the same time made it hard to tell what was going to happen. I was also a fan of the Super Sonic being a seperate being and living his own life sub-story that happened. I distinctively remember him with swirly eyes holding a shopping bag. Lol
And the italian guys in dungarees who owned Carnival Night Zone... Reference to Mario much?

Because all heroes have to be squeaky clean and extremely polite to everyone they meet! Sarcasm is only for use by villains!

... Seriously? Maybe people have exaggerated what he's like to you, but there's never any indication that he's less than a hero, just because he dabbles in sarcasm and insults.

To be fair, it did end up toned down a notch. sure, he'll call Tails Pixel Brain and all that, but on the first issues it's just ridiculous.

Some people draw old Sonic pretty weird from a behind point of view.

Very honestly, I never saw a problem with the jerk behaviour. It always made me laugh.
