So the new Mega Drive has been released and it doesn't sound as bad as the other releases, but the PSG is way off.

Huh, what do you know. That actually IS an improvement, not that that says much. I wonder if we might see one on par with emulators from 1998 before the end of the decade? =P

It certainly sounds better than Atgames' take on the console. :P Though with the pitch of the Sega PCM and PSG it throws it off a tad bit. Still I suppose if you couldn't get an original working Mega Drive this one would be a nice substitution.

Usually when these type of systems are released, Sonic 3 is missing. Takethis Sonic 25th Anniversary version which has all the Sonic games bar Sonic 3.

I've always assumed the omission of Sonic 3 was because of the MJ music issues.

But this new TechToy has Sonic 3 as the only Sonic game. Is it because it's using chips and not actual emulation? Or is it because it's only being sold in Brazil?

Oh my god, Alvin and the chipmunks sing the SEGA logo.

Did they even bother turning the console on before selling it?

EDIT: And the out-of-tune Special Stage music... It's like none of the TecToy employees involved with this release had actual, functional ears.

So, Knuckles in Sonic 2 works fine, but Sonic 3 & Knuckles doesn't

Watching a few videos and, after realising that Brazil desperately needs better people for making videos, here's what I found out.

These games won't run as of now (some may work when inserted into an SD):

    Eternal Champions
    Sonic & Knuckles Lock-on + Sonic 3
    Super Street Fighter II
    Truxton
    Virtua Racing
    Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

These games present small graphical issues:

Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II
    Eternal Champions
    Super Hang-on
    Super Monaco GP
    Super Thunder Blade

There's a MicroSD port on the back with the built-in games already on it, it is planned to be used for updating the system in the future.

"Mônica na terra dos monstros" (Wonderboy in Monster World modification) has a confirmed re-release on cartridge (Super Monaco GP was going to have a similar re-release but there were licensing issues).

The built-in/MicroSD games do not support SRAM, but cartridges do.
Apparently Duke Nukem 3D's save feature doesn't work, let that sink in.

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
Can't write saves to microSD? What reason could they possibly have for using a writable medium and not being able to write to it?

Bitching and complaining about my country -.-'
What I found even more disgusting is the comments on that video. Everyone's saying "Very good! It even sounds well!" I MEAN, FUCKING COME ON, PEOPLE.

Unlike a lot of people here, I am not very tech savvy but you would think in this day and age that were would perfect or close enough emulation for the MD. Could it really be that difficult to plug a few extra hours in to fixing hardware and PSG issues? For starters, I would pay that slight bit more for games to function and for the music and sounds to not sound like a low quality Siivagunner rip.

It's not an 'emulation bug' the hardware they reconstructed probably has errors in how they were built.

I don't understand what makes the sound of the Mega Drive so difficult to re-produce? Are they not allowed/can't source some of the original parts so had to make a replacement? It's so weird to me.

Okay, like I said I'm not the most tech savvy but surely if more money was invested into reconstructing and retesting the hardware, wouldn't the final result be a better product?

The sad reality of it is, business isn't like that. Products like these are simple cash grabs. Watching that video made me feel like someone just looked at the product and was like "meh. That'll do"

That sounds awful. The 'bad' Sega Genesis models sounded pretty bad too, but at least they weren't out of tune, I think.

Releasing a Mega Drive system that sounds like this in 2017 is disrespectful, even.

The original parts weren't all in a single chip. They redesigned the hardware to be made by a robot in a matter of seconds. There's even a video of one being assembled.

I must not be able to competently grasp how much Brazil loves their Mega Drive holy shit.

I don't get it, why don't they just buy/import an old one if they love the Mega Drive that much?
They're a lot cheaper and miles better, in my opinion.

Brazil has an insane electronics import tax, that's why. https://thenextweb.com/la/2012/09/30/from-brazil-cost-brazil-profit-why-electronics-expensive-brazil/

Still, maybe they should have used emulation after all, seeing how their brand new hardware provides a far less authentic experience than, say, a Wii with Genesis Plus GX installed (or even the official Virtual Console, as imperfect as it may be).
