Well in that case could it be possible that STI had something to do with the cheat codes? STI (possibly knowing of Naka's birthday or such.) add the biblen reference. Besides, doesn't the Jap's also have some significance with the number 7? There's something in the back of my skull that has an explanation and a link to it. I'll get back to everyone on that.

Yeah, what association do you make between 4-1-2-6 and 7? =P

Also 7 is an important number in a lot of cultures (Japanese included).

I wasn't. I was stating on the possibility that STI had the say of cheat codes and such. It seems more convenient where America (which has a large amount of christians) would reference that.
Someone at STI may have heard about the seven emeralds, thought to themselves "I know a good in-joke or whatever to reference SEVEN emeralds.

It could literally be a vast number of things. It's like saying about how Super Sonic is a direct reference to Goku because of his spikes going up and turning golden/yellow. SEVEN Dragonballs.

7 as in lucky number 7.

7 goes well with videogames too.

    Anyway *tired rambling over*

Pretty interesting observation there with the bible extract. Would be good to know for sure if the team intended that link.

Bill Willis was an assistant programmer for the game. Since he is the only American (well, I assume he is by his name) on the team, it makes it more likely that he'd be a Christian, and therefore I wonder if he was responsbile for the cheat code.

I really love how half this thread is shitting on this just because it has a Christian basis. Please don't argue out of it, its fucking obvious. The mindset in here ought to be "Oh cool. We should look into this." Instead you're quick to rain on the fucking parade for no reason. We've documented theories and coincidences in the past. Why not now? I'm willing to hold this up as a possibility, but counter-theories are always acceptable.

Are you aiming this at me or in general?

As far I'm concerned no one (myself included) is "raining on the fucking parade".

as for myself. I'm just talking on the basis of possibilites and such. If you do not like that then that's your problem.

Don't forget though that companies (including Sega) try to avoid every single attempt at a religious reference because they are afraid some religious nut will come out and complain and possibly put everything under a bad light. So that alone could put into doubt this whole theory, although you could argue it's so subtle they let it pass... so it could be either, really.

I totally agree Sik. I'm just trying to keep this from getting swept under the rug because OH GOD CHRISTIAN OVERTONES CAN'T HAVE THAT ON OUR MAGICAL NIHILISTIC RETRO FORUMS. I'd love to contact the American dev team to see if we can get an explanation for the code. But people shitting on this will only serve to hinder research on this. How about we keep an open mind on this and find other connections?

I think it is a coincidence. I'm sure Sega got the 7 emeralds thing from Dragonball z. Just like the super transformation.

I have been trying to think on what other stuff could it be, but right now nothing comes to my mind. Since the other codes are dates, it's possible this one is also a date... Heck, it could be two dates for all we know.

    PS: 4 + 1 + 2 + 6 = 13, and you know what connotations that has =P

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
You know what I always thought it was?

    4 - 1- 2 + 6 = 7

I don't know why I thought that particular mathematical set would've been significant.

With all due respect, a few of you are missing the point entirely. This isn't a discussion about why the number 7 was used. It's about why "4,1,2,6" was chosen for the cheat that gives you the 7 emeralds. Again, 41:26 in the book of Genesis suggests a pretty strong correlation. It could be a coincidence, I don't deny that. But discussing why the number seven was chosen has nothing to do with "4,1,2,6". Nothing. It's about why that sequence of numbers was picked. All the other cheats in that game reference something (all being dates), so it's quite natural to wonder what "4,1,2,6" could refer to. Whoever put the cheats in the game clearly wanted each cheat to have a hidden meaning. I believe this one could be a biblical reference.

Now, let's have a discussion about "4,1,2,6" and the possible bible link to those four numbers, not about why there are 7 emeralds (because, once again, that completely misses the point of this topic).

Quad was the 70's, Mono was first, Stereo is now, 5.1 is the future? =P Audio joke. Love to see what these numbers really mean. I haven't read the bible but the Christian references don't sound too off giving the context of the whole thing.

    It just hit me: 4 1 2 6 ? 1941/2/6

Any idea what could match either February 6th 1941 or June 2nd 1941?

    Geez, persecution complex much?

Literally no one in this thread has shat on anything because it's Christian. I'm a flaming atheist myself, and I think it would cool if it was a bible reference, because of the connection to "Genesis".

Saxman's brought up a beautiful theory, and I really don't want to see it killed by an ugly fact - but since there's no hard evidence yet, the possibility remains open. And since wanting something to be true doesn't make it true, keeping an open mind is precisely what I and a few others were advocating.

Don't be so quick to perceive shit where there is none.

There's this thing called "Google". It's pretty good at finding answers to questions like this! :v:
    Check this link about WWII.

Alot of sevens in there. Good grief, they're everywhere! Here! Someone else try out this Google thing for the other date! Don't be shy! It's easy and it works!

Except the other dates used as codes were related to the game somehow (1992/11/24 ? Sonic 2 release date, 1965/09/17 ? Yuji Naka's birthday), so I assume 1941/02/06 would follow the same pattern, and Google isn't that good at finding stuff like that.

Does anyone know what 4126 means in asm? Is it a meaningful instruction like 4E75?
