No pigs. This ROM is not dumped yet, just check the header. All we have is Rev. 01. (and presumingly Rev. 02 from Sonic Compilation)
My version's revision 01. =( So has this cart always been yours, Rika? Bought on launch day? Stolen from Naka himself? =P
Wow that's pretty cool! Does the cart have a different serial on the label? Or are those meaningless?
Something kinda unlelated... I've noticed how many of you guys use the term "rev. something" for the version number. Well, it was only used by GoodGen in the old days so I guess there's no need to use it anymore.
Well I'm sure when the lock on technology was made, they had all revisions of Sonic 2 in mind. Besides that, the ROM would have to be shifted to not work, according to drx.
I imagine that any differences will be in the program code only. I don't know if KiS2 uses hardcoded absolute offsets for Sonic 2, or if it changes based on the GM code. Since the UPMEM is only 256K, I can't imagine that there's that much room to account for art in different places. Perhaps that's a reason Sonic 1 wasn't compatible with S&K - I'm pretty sure that the two revisions have stuff moved around quite a bit.
Aha, but there may be some leftovers from previous builds, eg. the unused stuff in our beta. The only unused thing in Rev 01 and 02 is that door from ARZ... or was it HTZ? I can't remember. But that was, I think, the only leftover graphic. There may be more in this version. And, LocalH has a point, that SEGA knew that people had all the revisions, and would make all efforts to have it work with all the versions. Hey, if a new version's this close, keep your hopes up a little-it's what we did with LocalH's Sonic 3 EPROM, and sure, it wasn't any different, but at least we know now...
Rika, by what means did you obtain this cart? Is it just a normal, everyday Soic 2 cart? Not for resale?
Here it is. I checked with hex, and this is indeed Rev.00! I then did a file compare with Hex workshop, and there is quite a bit of differences other than the header. :P ENJOY! Please help me spread this far and wide! Sonic 2 Rev.00 Actually, I bought it a few years ago. It came with my Sega CD that I got from Ebay. It does *not* have the NRF sticker.
