So I thought it was about time to make a topic for this rather than clogging up the general vids and screenshots topic, especially since this is now a full project with Jamie Bailey's blessing and input.

Sonic Time Attacked MAX is a remake of the original Clickteam game by Jamie Bailey with updated physics and somewhat updated visuals all made in TruePowerofTeamwork's Sonic MAX engine for Gamemaker Studio.

There will be two modes of play for the game; Modern and Nostalgia mode. Nostalgia mode will let you take control of Sonic with his sprites and abilities from the original game while Modern Mode will let you play as a Sonic with all his various abilities from multiple games including Instashield, Shield Abilities, Drop Dash, Peelout, Homing Attack and of course, the Spindash.

Shields can now be accessed through the Starposts if you have 20 or more rings. The Starpost will take you to a Special Stage, but be careful since this will reset your Link counter to zero and break your chain (if you're going for Max Link).

==============================================================================

There's still a lot I need to do. The video above is just a WIP. Title cards need to be redone, as well as the end of act tally... And quite a bit more, but it's going. It would be nice to hear what y'all have to say. ^_^

62 Slots Open for Fancharacter Sprites:

  • H Hog
  • Dolphman
  • Techokami
  • Mr. Ksoft
  • GFThePlayer
  • Cinossu
  • Balmsoldier
  • TruePowerOfTeamwork
  • Glaber
  • RedHotSonic
  • Unlimited Trees
  • InstantSonic
  • StarTurbo
  • AsuharaMoon
  • TheGoku7729

Since this is a remake, an update of the Slide City residents is in order, don'tcha think? ^_^

Help Wanted:
  • Someone to create sprites for Tails, Knuckles and Super Sonic in the style of Sonic: Time Attacked. It would be a nice addition to the game. As well as boss sprites for Duneopolis Zone.
  • Someone to help rebuild the cutscenes in GML. I've done the first one but I want to focus on remaking the stages.
  • Artist to create visuals for a Special Stage to collect Chaos Emeralds.
  • Level designer for Duneopolis Zone, a scrapped stage being remade to be placed as the third zone, bringing the number of zones to seven.
  • Someone with Gamemaker: Studio who can test and compile the Android/IOS port.
  • Sonic style pixel shift Water shader for Gamemaker: Studio that can be placed over a specific area rectangle.

This is such a meta thing to see. Although remakes of fan games aren't new, it's still cool to see this kind of collaboration happen.

Only thing I suggest is to find a way to update the cutscenes so that they aren't stretched.

Right at the start of the video you'll see there's a little option called "Cutscene Mode" with two modes "Stretched" and "Scaled". Scaled will be what you're after, I select stretched for the video. :)

Dibs on a character slot! I was in the original one as well (orange hedgehog with an H on his torso), so I'd like to maintain my position, so to speak. :v:

I'm in Act 2, standing between Showoffboy ("Vegeta the Hedgehog") and Edweirdo (Mario with sunglasses and beer).

Can do! :D
Same character or you have a new one? If not do you have a sprite? And same position? The orange H Sonic resided in slot 27. :v:/>

Same's fine, my character hasn't changed much, unless you count his appearance in the IMP webcartoon where he wears a hat and pants. :B

(EDIT: Come to think of it, those legs look slanted as hell on that old sprite. Here's some that might be better, depending on the style and resolution you're going for. http://imgur.com/a/SIRid )
(Credits on those sprites from top to bottom: Showoffboy, Sam Beddoes, Captain NeoSonic)

Now this is a project I want to see completed, this was THE fangame to look forward to back in the day, even beyond SRB2! I remember getting permission to install a demo on our school computers when I was 12 and it was all everyone would play.

Over 10 years ago now when I was still making fangames myself I had someone that went by the name of SilverDragon on The Gaming Universe forums do a remix of the theme tune. Took some searching but here it is, brings back so many personal memories of me tinkering away in The Games Factory and MMF2. Perhaps someone here would be willing to do a remixed soundtrack for 'Modern Mode'?

I'd like to be in the character slot. My avatar character can be seen on this Eggman sheet I did (Above the credits tag). [LINK]
And I'm happy to see my Badnik sprites getting some use.

Do you also plan on having updated music? Seeing as nobody uses the midi format anymore for games. (fangame or original)

Ah what the heck, I wanted to be in this back in the day. Add me in, please!
This should be decent. It was made by mit, iirc. Crappy Blue Luigi. Alternate sprite, made eons ago by... I think it was Smithy?

I made that one, bud. You commissioned me for it.

I installed it on my school PC without permission, rascal that I was. XD
That remix sounds really cool! I always feel a little pull in my heart if an original piece from a fangame or Indie game get's a remix, it just seems more special. :P

BlazeHedgehog is in the process of remastering the soundtrack, you can check out some of his progress over on his blog:

Your Visa to enter Slide City has been granted. :P
Yeah, it always frustrates me that many fangames use the same original trilogy Badniks over and over. I'd really like to have all new Badniks, but your Genesis-ized handheld and Boom Badniks are a close and classy second place. :)/>

Ooh, animated. ^_^
I'll be going with the Crappy Blue Luigi made sprite. :)

My attempt at Knuckles in the original game's style.

Really need a spriter on board for this if any of the extra features are going to make it into the final release. I don't have much time and what I do have is devoted to rebuilding the stages, cutscenes and extra code.
If anyone out there is interested then let me know. :)/>
Else please spread the word! :eng101:/>

Jeez, to think we are sitting here talking about a remake of this game. I was in goddamn elementary school when the first demos came out.
I vaguely remember trying to get the fan character I had in way back when, and I actually had thought it was accepted but then I never found him in the game. Heh, I was probably just too new and annoying. Maybe my childhood dream can still come true?

Also since you mentioned the need: I have access to the GM:S Android and iOS exporters, and a couple different Android devices (phones and tablets from varying years) to test with. My iOS devices are dead or 6+ years old but I can at least produce builds and do have a Mac available to work with them.

Throw me a sprite of your fan character and you're in. ^_^

This is good news! I've been messing around with Sonic MAX's inbuilt Android functionality, testing it with my mouse and just generally messing around, but that's still technically in Windows mode and I have no idea if it will work the same on the actual device. Imagine playing Time Attacked on your phone! :v:

If you're up for it, once I'm done with menus and Slide City and ready for a one zone demo, I'll send you the (gmz I think it is now?) file to tinker with, hopefully to release an Android and IOS demo as well (maybe Mac too :3)
