Is the (more S3-ish) sprite in the upper-left screenshot now out-of-date?

The one in the bottom-left image really doesn't match any of the other three. Maybe that's one of your new sprites and/or this is related to some sprites not having been replaced yet, but I can't tell.

And yeah, I'm not a fan of the new sprites (particularly their eyes)... but do what you want, of course.

I thought it was a gimmick. As for the name, correct me if I'm wrong guys, but couldn't sugar also be called Sucrose, Lactose, and Fructose, depending on what type of sugar it is? You could probably also color some of the sugar to look like brown sugar as well, to maybe help make it not give people the idea of cocaine or something... Just some random ideas.

EDIT - Apparently there's Maltose too. That's a lot of "-ose" for just sugar...

I'm already considering remaking the looking up sprites as it was already mentioned over at sfghq but don't expect too much of me, I'm no spriter
actually, P3DR0 only did the first frame and super sonic, the rest was just my attempt on trying finishing it

here is an old verision of the sheet, if someone want to take a look

there is an option to change the skin btw
Posted Image

I'll probably add some sugar cane in the "tidal tempest good future style" but I do want to leave the water blue
and even if I change the colors, I'll probably wouldnt change the physics on it

I use a different skin when sonic is "going crazy", I just didnt updated it to the new sprite yet

Tint the sugar pink. Seems to be the 'cartoon' colour to indicate sweetness, and won't look so much like cocaine.

Also, some clues for context. Thought about barrels and/or crates reading 'SUGAR' in big letters? ;)

So, what exactly is all this sugar meant to be for, anyways? Is this game supposed to take place between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, or sometime before Sonic Colors? I always did wonder where the supplies for Sweet Mountain came from.

By the way, are you planning on putting a Super Sonic level in this? Doomsday Zone has to be my absolute favorite level in all the classic games, and I would love another Super Sonic vs. Eggman-Supermech battle. If you do, though, could you please make it easier to access the secret stages? It was far too difficult to get in those end-of-level rings in your first game.

well, I'm trying to give the level I bit more of a factory style
Posted Image Posted Image
please ignore the badnik up there, it's unfinished

anyway, looking better now?

I would have never though of that, nice idea, I'll see if I can find an nice way to put it in

yes, it is supposed to take place between sonic 2 and 3 and I'm already considering doing some major changes in the intro cutscene, also there will be caos emeralds and super sonic, that means there will be a final battle much like doomsday.

the zone is supposed to be called: "Glycolysis Glacier Zone" or "Glucose Glacier Zone"
but I'm still in a doubt about them

Doesn't Something like Sugar Mountain seem a lot simpler? >_>

Perhaps he's trying to do a Sonic CD thing where the names of the zones contain two words that start with the same letter.

Sonic looks like he feels incredibly heavy in that video you posted.

All of this is looking cool, but might I suggest that you need to do something to seperate the layers of sugar mounds to create the illusion of depth, so you can tell where Sonic's running? Maybe graduate from very subtle a pink tint to a blue or something.

Finally I've played a Sonic fan-game wich has good physics and decent gameplay. Impressive graphics and everything, yes. But I have some complaints about this game.

- I'm not sure if it was my impression, but the underwater effects and the rain effect gave to the game a huge load of lag... Even in full screen.
- Some options didn't worked well (because they are disabled?).
- The game didn't loaded the second act when I've played as Tails.
- Tails looked too heavy when flying.
- 'Z' to jump? Dude, follow me: 'D' is much better. I took more than 10 minutes to find wich was the key to jump in this game!
- The Sonic's jump/rolling animation looks too slow. It gives a impression of lazyness on the work of it.

Even being a demo, I enjoyed it really a lot. Great music selections (they fits really well on everything), fantastic graphics, awesome idea of the game in general.
Man... this game has a really good future. I can't wait to see more.

Cocaine Hill Zone? :V

It's certainly a refreshing concept, I look forward to seeing more of it.

Damnit Overlord I wanted to make a cocaine joke! >_<

Anyway nice sprite LakeFeperd, I mix up of Sonic 1 - 3 and CD, interesting sprites I'm diggin. Also I recommend keeping the "sugar" level, maybe not as a whole zone but as part of a 3 act zone with a sweet theme to it, I do recommend on keeping it though, it's so damn awesome, hell I'm getting a sugar rush just thinking about it!!! :specialed:

I would like to say that I found this very interesting. I cant quite put my finger on it, but it feels so refreshing. Great atmosphere.

Also, that Sonic 1/3 sprite is pure win.

well, why don't you guys go play the demo, if you haven't played yet, go give it a try
the first zone is pretty outdated though

A guy named Gungriffon Geona is helping me out with some few graphics for ATS
he will probably finish the graphical updates for technology tree really soon

the trees and the pillars are Geona's work with some few edits that I've made

maybe it's because of the spin dash... that people complained that it is "slow"
but this is actually sonic worlds at it's basic

@Eduardo Knuckles
I tried to make the jumping/rolling animation speed more like sonic 3's animation speed, well... I think I've done it right, are you sure about this?
the same for Tails flying ability
and for the "not loading the second act": when did you donwloaded it?
are you sure you got the demo version that has the warping orb at the end of act 1 glitch fixed?

Z to jump? DEAL WITH IT
there is a way to change it by pressing ctrl+y btw...

@Mr. Mash
maybe some pipes or small structures like small cranes or something like that would do the job
but the parallax also give a really nice inpressiom of depth

I like "Glucose Glacier". It sounds fresh and new.

But, in terms of visual context clues, there's really nothing to denote the piles of white is sugar. The old, rustic bricks and towers in the background really make the level look more like some sort of ruin covered in piles of white sand. The idea is a great one, but you just need to refine the look a bit to really sell the idea that those piles are sugar and not white, Florida sands.

I echo the idea of giving the sugar mild pink and blue tints, kind of like what you'd use to make rock candy.
