Then again, I don't know how obvious the visuals are that go with this. Although the mental image of Penders trying to write Schindler's List & Knuckles is something I never wanted to imagine.

Wow. You can basically boil his tweet down to "WHY CREATE IF NO $$$$?" as if he's actually perplexed that people would (dare I say it) actually WANT to write a Sonic the Hedgehog comic for more than just the money. Sonic was nothing more than a springboard for him to peddle his own material off of. We're seeing that now more than ever. Also fucking hell, the salt is flowing from him now.

It makes sense that Penders is turbo-asshurt now that he knows he will be getting absolutely ZERO percent royalties from any of this. There was a Sonic thread on /co/ about a week ago or so that remarked on the fact that Penders is much like another guy in the comics industry, I don't know his name but he was apparently close with the creators of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and attempted to lawsuit them into oblivion for something he created. While it didn't work, he basically carried on as a specter looming over the series, looking to sue at the slightest thing. It's pretty clear that this is what Penders intends, he's gonna watch IDW like a hawk and try to sue for anything he can because he knows he's no longer relevant.
I really hope this time in between Archie and IDW has given Sega the chance get some supreme Penders defense going. I want IDW to be confident in creating whatever new characters and stories they feel necessary for the plot without going "Oh damn, having this female Echidna might get He Who Shall Not Be Named onto us again..". The lawyers should be clued in enough to be able to swat Penders away if he tries anything. I'd hate to quote Capcom on this, but if we imagine an Archie character as a 'Function' (for example, Scourge played the 'function' of an evil version of Sonic), I feel like IDW should be able to have that same 'function' in their comics. The concept of an evil Sonic isn't exactly original , but I know Penders has gotten wound up in the past when people have even suggested rebooting a character like Scourge, with Penders implying he's the sole inventor of the concept of an evil Sonic type character! Bullshit like that should be stomped out, and I'd hate for Sega/IDW's lawyers to have to settle for less due to not caring or being so well informed about all this petty rubbish. If they know the enemy and know themselves, we'll all have a good time except Ken Penders. That's my hopes anyway!
That's nothing; In the same post where he originally claimed Evil Sonic was a Totally Original Character, and that he owns all concepts of anti-characters in Sonic (including ones that were never introduced), he also made the claim that he invented the idea of alternate timelines in Sonic. This is despite the fact that Sonic CD predated his work on the comic. While the games had zones or levels, they did not have alternate timelines, nor did they feature doppelgangers of any kind of any of the characters. Evil Bunnie didn't appear in the early stories, but it was a given she existed on the same plane as Evil Sonic, as would an Evil Geoffrey or an Evil Julie-Su. (Actually, I don't believe the Geoffrey of that universe would necessarily be "evil", probably something more like "Anti-Knuckles", who was an opposite from the actual Knuckles by being a pacifist. Still, an Evil Geoffrey could exist on one of the planes of existence introduced in SONIC #19, which still leaves him in my possession as you're utilizing my concepts in order to create an Evil Geoffrey. Anyone with common sense would normally say "uh, yeah Sega owns this Knuckles fella, sorry, you can't just give him a stick-on beard and say it's your own character...", but somehow it's come this far, and Ken's as deluded as ever. Honestly the idea of having the knowledge that they could stick Julie-Su in an issue is a more enticing fantasy to me than the idea of them actually doing it. Because I don't care about Julie-Su, but I do care about a good comic not having to put up with bullshit. I'd be totally satisfied if they said "oh we can do that, we just probably won't".
Honestly, if these restrictions are more lax on the IDW version, why even bother with Julie-Su? Just bring in Shade. :v

Anyway, I'm wondering if Penders finally realizes that despite him utterly hating Archie, he needed them too in order to stay relevant. He will have absolutely no connection to the upcoming IDW Sonic comic, and thus the only thing that now awaits Penders is him being swallowed into the abyss of obscurity.
