Looks like it's the same collection on Steam, given the beginning looks just like Unity stuff that they updated in a while back. Gonna guess they're nixing buying each game individually here shortly since it's also a PC release which I guess makes sense. Kinda curious if that means the mod support is getting canned too, if that's the case.

As always, where da Switch version at.

Guess Sega has to throw out a compilation of their Genesis classics every generation or so to new platforms (though apparently a Switch release isn't on the cards for whatever reason...).

I presume this is going to be another box of emulators like Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (hopefully the emulation is better here than on that game).

Also wonder if it's going to have Sonic 3 / S&K / S3&K, considering it's been ages since it/they last got a re-release (last one was the 2011 3&K Steam release IIRC) and skipped over in M2 ports and mobile remasters (the denied TaxStealth S3&K remaster pitch still hurts, even though we got Mania out of it nonetheless).

e: Should also be noted that this trailer (posted by seganerds) was found in Sega's press vault, the compilation hasn't officially been announced yet.

Are you telling me no one saved it? If it came from Sega's Press Vault that's PRIME wiki material.

I wouldn't hold out hope for S3(K) - the shelves in the trailer have Sonic 1, Sonic 2, 3D Blast and Spinball.

Also worth noting a store put up a handful of (un)announced Sega games for preorders (for PS4) a while back, and one of them was "Sega MegaDrive Collection":

Wonder if this collection has anything to do with this leak. (I hope it does, I and many others been begging for a physical release for Mania for over a year now; and having Shemnue 1/2 finally get modern re-releases would also be excellent.)

e: This listing leak was first discovered back in September from last year, for those wondering how long ago this leak was floating around.

It was confirmed to be fake crap that they just put up to generate traffic to their store. Their Shenmue pack had a release date of April 2017, which was updated after that date passed to a different date and news articles picked it up again 6 months later believing it yet again. For this I personally think they were just speculating based on Sega having released Genesis collections on PS2, PS3, etc.

This is cool I guess, though we get a compilation like this every generation, so it's not too much of a surprise. It's looking like a straight conversion of the existing collection on Steam.

Unless this has some highly sought after games that we don't usually see like Golden Axe III or Monster World IV I'm not too hyped for this.

People aren't over buying the same collection of ROMs yet?

Why would they have removed it though. It's the one game Xbone and PS4 players might not have because it doesn't get re-released very often.

I am, but I'll pay for literally anything with Christian Whitehead and Headcannon logos on it.

Oh boy.

Obviously we hope Sonic 1 and 2 are the remastered versions.

No S3K yet again lolololol

Surprised that there are no TechnoSoft games. I thought SEGA owns their IPs now. All we've seen from it is Thunder Force 3 on the 3DS and in Japan only.

Hopefully more games to be revealed.

Well, it will be nice to play mega-drive games on PS4 even if it is just emulations. As this appears more or less to be like the recent Steam versions, SEGA has had more than enough time since to get the emulation running as smooth as possible. Looking forward playing and streaming these games.

However....

...from that screenshot alone I'm expecting the Sonic 1 & 2 versions to be emulations of the original and not the Taxman ports, M2 ports or even the SEGA Forever versions. Unless or course they are planning to release a separate collection with the Taxman ports or they are going to be included with the Sonic Mania Plus edition, which after seeing this announcement I now seriously doubt!

Doesn't look like this collection will include Sonic CD, or even the original version (which of course is a Mega CD game and not a Mega-Drive title).

As for Sonic 3 & Knuckles not appearing to be included. Honestly, is anyone surprised at this point? The best 2d game continues to be ignored due to all the music legal-issues bollocks. I'm a bit surprised that S&K (on it's own minus the Sonic 3 half) isn't included, but whatever...

So, YAY to a collection of Mega-Drive games, Spinball, 3D Blast and Mean Bean.

NAY for the shitty emulations of Sonic 1&2.
